I'm really wondering why OP didn't reach for Astro right away, it's purpose built for this precise use case! Still, glad they had fun.

I just prompted Opus 5.5 to build a 5e character sheet tracker from the SRD (which I extracted an MD file from previously) and it got everything working with 20% of the session! Frontend only so not horribly complicated, and some of the UI is a bit janky/not to my taste, but it all works right off the bat! I was working on this with Tanstack for the last week or so and it was nowhere near this quick and easy (though I confess we use Sveltekit at work so I'm more familiar with that).

If y'all are worried about AI not doing Svelte well, I'm willing to vouch for at least Opus using it well, and there's svelte-check and friends to make sure you're not doing anything dumb on accident.

I'd consider such a thing if it ran from a box in my closet, I don't even have Alexa right now as I don't want to send every detail of my life to whatever Mothership controlled by people without my best interests at heart.

Trouble is, these factory games are fairly deterministic and are nowhere near as opaque as the real world.

Kind of like how the Travelling Salesman Problem is near impossible in a static network, it's truly impossible in real life as changing conditions constantly make the solution different, so even an instant answer isn't good enough.

I realize as I'm typing this that your thoughts are almost exactly what the more optimistic Communists thought in the Soviet Union (very laudatory towards you by the way), I really should get around to reading Red Plenty, I have a thing for bureaucratic tragedy.

This is what I'm doing right now to learn Electron, I essentially had Opus write me a tutorial to write the application I want to have, and I'm modifying bits and pieces as I go. It's been enlightening thus far, and the bot isn't always right so I still need to look up documentation on occasion.

If they're skimping on their posters, what else are they skimping on?

It's cheap, looks cheap, and signals laziness. This is the sentiment I'm getting even from non-technical people on Facebook these days.

Prebuilt machines have a terrible reputation, I could see people wanting this for a PC that you don't need hardware expertise to boot up. If you're reading this you could probably pick out your own parts and assemble them for cheaper, but for people who want a console-style plug-and-play type experience I could see the market for it.

Pricey, but so is any other sort of electronic entertainment hardware these days.

Trip report: FFXIV does great, but both Hades and Hollow Knight have atrocious lag. I don't know why different games are different for Bluetooth lag performance, when they're all great on my Windows machine.

I hope the Bluetooth audio latency issue I've been having is fixed. I have two Bluetooth pairs of headphones, one open-ear and one noise-cancelling, and they both have either a half-second or one-second latency between what happens on screen and the audio feedback.

Luckily wired headsets work perfectly fine.

Stalin's Russia didn't have a cult of machismo quite like Germany or Italy did, they measured themselves by industrial and intellectual might, rather than how manly they were. Yes there are quite a few similarities I'll grant you, but they didn't have that particular weakness.

For the longest time it was an economic axiom that regulations drive off businesses, and here stronger laws are directly attracting business!

This, I've been using SpecKit for a while for my side project and it's been working beautifully. I generally spend more than half my time working on the specs, until implementation is an afterthought, Claude already knows what to write and where. The /speckit.analyze and /speckit.clarify tools are extremely useful for me.

Same, it feels like Bootstrap but much, much more customizable. When I'm not using ShadCN that's what I reach for by default, it's been much nicer to work with, personally.
