As someone who grew up in Portland and still lives here. Please stop telling people about Portland. The traffic is already bad enough and I personally enjoy dreaming of owning a house one day that isn't in the sticks. Portland housing is sky-rocketing because of techies leaving the bay for cheaper housing.

I switched to T-Mobile a while back. Best decision I've ever made.

I'd also point out that the term "nutritionist" doesn't even mean anything is most jurisdictions
As someone who is living with someone becoming an accredited "Nutritionist" I can assure you this is not the case. There is an extreme amount of scientific research and cellular biology that is studied. This may not be the case for all nutritionist courses, but to dismiss an entire field because of one case is extremely ignorant.

BUT.. this is Hacker News where coders go to confirm each other's biases about the world at large and remind each other how much knowledge you can have by sitting behind your work desk.

Not everyone wants to read through life like Nathan Lane.

I'd venture to say the reason there is 100% reliability is due to the personal and "non-corporate" aspect to the way he does business. When you stop having face-to-face transactions and stop seeing your customers the interest in maintaining quality plummets. People become numbers.

Also, p2p transactions work so well and are cheap because of the lack of middle-men taking unnecessary "fees".

As a professional photo/video/audio editor, my problem with this is not "touch-typing" but rather it's another thing I'll have to adjust my senses to. I'll have to relearn the keyboard and spend unnecessary time adjusting settings and configuration for something I don't need.

On top of all this, the keyboard will feel more fragile and have more complexity. I prefer reliability over unnecessary complication.

But apple fanboys will keep buying it
It's extremely patronizing and dismissive to insinuate that only "apple fanboys" buy macbook pros. There are plenty of reasons to buy an apple laptop without being a "fanboy". Searching for the best laptop leads many to apple simply because of logistics/price/ease-of-use.

That said, most of the other stuff you say is true.

Yeah but most of the time laypeople disregard the scientists and substitute their own logic anyways.. People are incredibly stubborn and set in their opinions.

letting people exchange money (directly) with whatever currencies they want
If you had any idea the amount of regulation and ridiculousness involved in banking and forex, you'd laugh at this statement.

It's the internet vs. intranets all over again. People have too much stock invested in "bitcoin is fundamentally flawed" and before that it was "bitcoin is a scam". Now it's "a different bitcoin is the answer".

EDIT: Time and again getting downvotes because of HN's cognitive dissonance. Pathetic low-tier reddit run-off is entering HN's market share.

This is my exact argument for why "free market" doesn't always work. Sometimes you need to subsidize an unprofitable venture to truly move forward. Then innovation and profit models come after the initial hurdle is over. Most investors don't want to subsidize for long-term profit though.
