I was just inspired by FEBO listing themselves on UberEats. I thought if they could put themselves on UberEats, I can aspire to be anything in life.

It is important to listen to the body. I tried to have a spartan level of self discipline and that put me in a express route to burn out. And I burned out.

Burn out is not easy to climb out of, so I would rather be less than ideally productive than be disciplined to an extent that ignores my humanity and that damages me severely.

I wouldn't say that is mistreatment. It is a business transaction where one party has more leverage than the other. 99% of the time the employee in the lower income region gets a far high salary than they expect to get at another employer. So it is not like they are being coerced into a "unable to make ends meet" levels of income.

The employee ends up doing pretty well.

> The point of a PIP is to create a paper trail to protect the company from incurring further costs and liability risk, so as a purely post-decision defensive strategy, it makes sense to not disclose it. The laws makes it such that everyone has to sustain the fiction that a PIP is in earnest, which creates that creepy gaslighting feeling. The supreme irony is keeping it secret could mean a more personally honest and less psychologically harmful relationship for all involved.

Are you from the USA?

> That culture needs to be implemented with actions, and by the leadership behaving according to that culture, not by sending out a memo.

I think the memo saves a lot of people a lot of time and frustration. By actions you mean "not tolerated" in the sense that someone is fired or reprimanded for a set of behaviours then that would raise a lot of questions about what else doesn't fly when working there. It is better that they published a memo.

Not something most developers who may use a tmux equivalent would know about.

They make that in probably the time I took to write this comment. Source: used to work there.

I am based out of Europe. I am a developer here. I have worked in a different tech market before coming here - India.

The whole of Europe's tech scene is smaller than India's. I think that is the reason for the pay gap. Even despite that the pay for engineers is significantly above the median wage.

I live in the Netherlands and I make a salary similar to doctors, lawyers and dentists. So the face value of the salary may be lower but it is a lot for here.
