I chose this stupid username because I didn't expect to hang out here too much. Now look what happened.

Agree. It’s radical exposure to the anxiety and trigger, and full acceptance of every feeling and symptom it brings, that’s the only true way out. The issue I myself encounter is that if one has built up enough anxiety over a long time, there is soo much to be processed, that the exposure and radical acceptance process requires a lot of time and deliberate action (even if action only means sitting with it). Possibly weeks or longer. Hard to find that time.

I agree with this. Sex may actually be overrated. It’s just another way of seeking instant gratification, using another person for it. It requires a lot of effort to get there (for most people), and even more to maintain it being exciting over time (with the same person). In the past people didn’t have that many ways to get intense pleasure, so sex always was the pinnacle and gold standard. But that clearly has changed.

To me it’s surprising that so many observers and pundits seem to be so confused about this development.

To me, this is a confirmation of how much of a free man I am and how unfree these tech billionaires and CEOs are. Because I can choose to say AI, whereas they seemingly cannot.

Sometimes I wonder if not AI infrastructure itself is the paperclip.

We should reserve the term “consciousness” for biologicals organisms, and if needed, come up with a new term and definition for machines. That way, we don’t risk bringing all the moral values, ethics, norms, and associated emotional baggage we apply to humans, into the machine realm. Because that would move us closer to becoming enslaved by the machines, and their owners (“no you cannot turn off that data center, it would mean murdering the ai”).

Sadly, my sense is that some of the AI-pilled people are longing for that kind of enslavement. Not unlike how billions are submitting themselves to god and religion. It’s probably evolutionary hardwired to seek this out.

I am only commenting from afar (haven’t been in the US since around 10 yrs ago, but consuming a lot of US centric information), but could it be that the US economy has simply become too extractional? In my eyes, healthy capitalism needs a balance between profit-seeking and customer-satisfying. And at least from what I read and hear, the balance is now gone, with consumers being nickled and dimed while the quality of products and services going down. I am thinking of all the hotel junk fees for example, or how airlines keep segmenting customers so everybody gets exactly the lowest level of experience they can cope with, while paying as much as possible.

Sad! He (and Michael Arrington) were the first two tech bloggers I read religiously back in the web 2.0 days. Had Malik’s personal blog in my RSS feeds until now. It has been only a week or so since I read his last post.

I only use CC, to earn airline points (based in Sweden). But I always pay the entire amount due at the end of the interest-free period, so I never pay interest.

I also like the fact that using a CC comes with better buyer protection than debit cards.
