On the other hand, reactionary populist movements of late (or probably ever) haven't been creating positive outcomes for their countries either

A tradie doing some welding in the kitchen I was working in some years back told me this as he disabled the smoke alarm (to prevent a false alert while he was welding): "if you set off a false alert on the fire alarm, quickly set fire to the wastepaper bin - it saves you from paying the false alert fee"

> It should not be possible for one person to make a mistake of this magnitude

Exactly. Which means a whole bunch of other people allowed for this situation to occur. So it isn't one person responsible for this mistake.

Are any customers asking for a laptop that is 1 or 2mm thinner?

I'm not that familiar with the idea of a food desert, but the comparison here is with (ultra-processed, high-protein) engineered high-fibre food. Is that kind of food available in a food desert? (I'm genuinely curious).

Also, they're not more expensive for seasonal produce, last for ages frozen. Yes, requires more skill, but there are so many quick simple recipes anyone can learn. It's really a failing of the education system if people can't cook a couple of simple, tasty, healthy meals.

I think I've generally used smooth; the cheesecake base is the crunchy complement to the main cake's smoothness.

One night I ended up with a scoop of ice cream I had to discard (I think I dropped it on the floor?) so left it in the sink. The next morning, it was still there. This was quite a decent ice cream, both in terms of flavour and texture; it was some of the gums holding it together. That became my new ice-cream of choice for making an affogatto without the icecream completely melting.

It is indeed excellent; I think it goes well with a bit of whisky in the cheesecake. I also sometimes put a swirl of Biscoff spread through the cheesecake

Shout out to Tough Guy Book Club - find a chapter in your area, get reading, and get talking. If there's no chapters nearby, start one!

Correct, though it becomes a bit more of a problem if someone decides to connect a few of these (or batteries) to the same circuit

> Peanut butter definitely is. Even if you make it home-made you need to add some sort of oil to get the persistent creamy texture, but it naturally separates.

Depends on how you make it - it's definitely trickier at home to get a creamy texture without extra oil, but with the right machine (i.e. peanut butter maker) it comes out smooth with just peanuts (and salt if you like); some wholefoods shops have the machine where you can make it yourself.

Many store-bought peanut butters use oil as an additive as the peanut oil is more expensive, so they remove that to sell as peanut oil, and replace it with cheaper oils

Yes, and no. Just about all of the water is removed; and the high salt and fat content make them hostile to microbes.

Wild that people can't just cook and eat more vegetables.

As I understand it you need more protein as you get older.

I'm curious how, historically, people have fared, as meat has not been as available as it is now (though this has probably varied considerably over time)
