OT but I really like the website - do you mind if I ask who created it?

I'm co-creator of mailosaur.com

We added both the SMTP option and wildcard email address suffix for this reason - Some people want to use SMTP to catch all, others prefer specific email addresses (e.g. One per test run)

Has anyone here gathered a bunch of resources similar to this, especially around early-days bootstrap Marketing for SaaS?

We created our product as a group with engineering backgrounds and now trying to switch some to full on Marketing mode and trying to grab anything I can get my hands on.

But their reasoning for not entering your real password into a checker is "...unlike this one, some may be fake"

Then they follow it up with "Why not get your family, friends and workmates to test their passwords too?"

And the placeholder in the input field is "Enter your password".

I completely agree. One of the main things I like about HN's simplistic style, is that within a few seconds I can scan a dozen or so entries and filter out what I'm going to look through.

When articles like this are submitted to HN, can we have a discussion on what us as individuals can actually do (if anything)?

I'd rather drop 100 comments on general FEELING towards the news, for 1 or 2 comments suggesting 'Let's create a campaign site' or 'There is nothing we can do, lets just sit here in silence'

Edit: For what it's worth my ONLY suggestion is that a campaign site similar to that for SOPA, etc. is put together - ideally on GitHub or similar so it can be rapidly put together.

This is why I believe the 'opt-in/out' switching should be as seemless and accessible as possible - if it is, then to my mind this is no closer to censorship than the film classification system.

"By default the state assumes you don't want to see sexual content; if you do - thats fine by us"

Note that I'm saying this is how I see it balancing with civil liberties - there is of course the chance that it DOESN'T work out like this in practice.
