It boggles my mind that more companies don't understand this. A happy customer is a long term customer is a profitable customer. Pissing off your customers by treating them badly just ensures you get less or zero additional money out of them. You'd think that'd be Business 101, but idiots run the world by smashing and grabbing their quick paychecks and dashing out the door before their bad decisions catch up to them.

Pretty sure he's also an H1B or previously a visa worker. Indeed, insanely self-serving and out of touch.

Ah yes, just what we need, more H1Bs running around taking the jobs for which there are plenty of qualified unemployed Americans. That'll do wonders for us, I'm sure!

I don't think you understand the current state of capitalism very well. Absolutely nothing goes down in price once companies know people will still buy an item at a higher price. We will never see hardware at the previous affordable prices again. Sure it might go down somewhat, but going down from 500% of previous prices to 400% of previous prices is not suddenly "affordable". And that is exactly what will happen. Models will not suddenly stop improving and their consumption of hardware will not stop. The corporations won't allow it. We have too many companies in an arms race against each other. They literally cannot stop or they die.

"Temporary" is a few months. We're looking at many multiple years before parts even _begin_ to decline in price, if even. How much will we as consumers lose in the time it takes for this to correct? This is not "temporary", this is a decimation of an entire product sector for the foreseeable future. There is no historical precedent for this. Companies are not and will not slow down gobbling up literally every tech part they can. Every year, training and running AI will demand more resources over and over and we will continue to be charged increasing amounts for everything because everything costs more either directly or upstream of us. It is a literal cancer.

Running ethernet over the whole home is an expensive job, may not even be realistic depending on the home's construction, and definitely isn't possible if you're renting. It's not perfect and not as good as ethernet for sure, but it's better than using a single router.

What I really want and haven't seen is a proper mesh router setup that runs DD-WRT or something open-source. In bigger homes really a mesh system is your best hope since your internet access usually comes in on a corner somewhere, but I really don't trust any of the options I have (with the possible exception of one, whose name escapes me at the moment).

I dunno man, from an outsider's perspective I used to think that but it seems to slowly be getting worse with trying to shove through internet surveillance and corporate protectionism under the guise of "protect the kids". I guess sadly someone saw how unreasonably effective that can be in the US.

Ah yes, like my RAM, SSDs, and GPUs are trickling down right now? You're absolutely right! I love a trickle of PC parts!

Ah yes, the famous "trickle down" theory, which you may know from its smash hit "trickle down economics"! Surely this time it'll be different, right?

You're not wrong, but that's an entirely different discussion from whether or not someone should be forced out of their house simply because gentrification and inflation causes their taxes to go up year after year likely long after they're done working. Oftentimes people buy homes in low-cost areas because that's what they can afford. It's not their fault when the area gentrifies and their taxes skyrocket past their means through no fault of their own. We can advocate both for homes to be more affordable for people that need one and for people to not lose their homes due to constantly rising taxes.

It's classic neoliberalism think which for some reason the tech crowd is unreasonably susceptible to. "Oh you're poor? Can't afford your bills? Must be your fault." It's utterly disgusting.

Yep. That all sounds about right. Reddit is for bot slop, astroturfing, and basement-dwelling troglodytes just itching to exercise the tiniest amount of power over other anonymous people on the internet. It's a very stupid place.

No? Per someone else's comment, presumably they're using vast.ai which does indeed list the 6000 for $1/hr
