they could take a page out of the CIA manual for it.

how is it cognitive dissonance when canada is mostly in the right about a lot of issues that america is in the wrong about? just because you disagree with some dickhead politican's point of view doesn't mean you disagree with the country. there's plenty of shitty bills like this being thrust upon americans against their will. what a weird argument.

I grew up on apple computers and switched to windows and pcs for gaming reasons. when the iphone era came i switched back to them for my work computer and daily driver. my ideology soured when they deprecated perfectly good computers and phones from being able to run more recent software due to a few structural issues. Don't have that with linux generally and i don't want to be beholden to some update cycle to appease the apple managers and their sales targets. macos is great and the best software they've made... i just don't like their philosophy no. (that and ever since jobs died it's kinda gone downhill... tahoe is pretty bad it seems)

that said linux is objectively better in the freedom to do what you want department and complete customization areas and kde has a lot of the nice extras i had to install other software for on macos or windows out of the box. (middle mouse click on the magicmouse works out of the box, window management stuff, gaming controllers are some that come to mind)

i also think the people that think linux is some kind of super difficult thing to use forget that windows and macos have a ton of issues too and not everything works... you're just used to how it's broken and how to fix it from decades of using it. for 95% of the people that only use a handful of apps and a browser it's perfectly fine... you just need to call a different IT person to fix it or google it or even just use an LLM if you are so inclined.

yeah i'm happy to be on linux fulltime now from macos. you have the ultimate control over your system at the end of the day and can inspect how everything works and change it. toshy made it easier to keep my muscle memory of mac keybindings which i love and it works really well out of the box. there was a month or two before i installed it because i though it would be this big deal that would break things but to my surprise most everything worked well ootb.

yeah I am an aviation nerd and knew that but I was just trying to figure out how much they knew for such an outlandish claim.

do you actually understand how modern airplanes work in practice or is this just based off the fact that an airplane can land by itself?

apple pay is pretty damn convenient and seemingly secure. open a webpage and scan the apple qr like code and it's all done without much worry. maybe there's a mitm attack but i feel like you have a better shot at getting a refund from apple(i admit i've only used it a few times and nothing substantial or expensive)

i believe it also autofilled the address form for me.

i'd suggest trying out toshy... it's a game changer for linux. you get almost all of the mac keyboard shortcuts working out of the box. there's a few rough edges sometimes but generally it feels like you're using a mac wrt shortcuts. even stuff like diacritics and textbox emacs shortcuts work if you want.

karabiner-elements works very well to remap keys in macos even in very complex ways if you want. (multimodal ways held does something with other key presses but pressed by itself would emit a different code like esc or capslock)

local area network traffic was sent out and received by the device to the tune of 1TB of traffic. not internet data but local area network data which is not ideal for a coffee machine either way you slice it. if it were some kind of local bonjour or whatever the open standard is called service that was just alerting the network of their name it would be understandable but the coffee maker is streaming the equivalent of about 17 high def movies every day to the local network.

not only that but there are knock on effects like people hoarding toilet paper etc.

having written a few extensions... they are basically the same API with a few differences you need to account for. there's polyfills that can unify the experience a bit more too.

i'd expect the fact that svelte doesn't have a shadow dom that gets recomputed all the time that it would be a significant performance and memory benefit for most apps. i'm not an expert though so idk if that's 100% accurate

vary similar processes. vibe code/vibe create a presentation. he also knew what "shape the graph should look like" but still had errors in his powerpoint. if you can't trust it with a powerpoint i'm not sure why you can trust it for other low stakes things.
