Yeah that’s my read too. Mistakes like this might fly under the radar with the general public but I think a much larger portion of Protons user base, as opposed to Zoho or Google, reads 404 and HN.

I’ll definitely not be renewing my subscription to their service, I can tell you that much.

Come on now Voyager wasn’t that bad

Kind of amazing how completely Yen misunderstands Protons customer base. It’s pretty much entirely security conscious people who want to divest from big tech right?

Why would he throw all that away?

I feel like this is an internal bias I’ve actually built up over time. If I see another company providing a service come out after something I already am using, I subconsciously gravitate toward it.

If they’re coming to market when there’s already a dominant player, they must have improved something, right? Not saying it’s logical.

Got stuck in a loop with my work account recently after setting up a passkey. It would cycle through something like 12 different pages, loading then redirecting before eventually ending at “You have been signed out”. Awful

This is the primary reason, to me, that open weights are so important. If OpenAI and Anthropic want these models to be as autonomous as possible they also need to provide the means to understand them fully.

They also ring when a non-associated iphone is moving with them for some time.

> “shooting somebody in the face with a gun”

If you try to visualize this in action, replace somebody with a bad guy. And you quickly see there’s nothing inherently wrong with the idea.

This is sweet! Is there like a way to contribute and build these or is this just a list of cool things someone has made?

I think the only truly trivial ones are for n = k^2. Even the solutions that have integer side lengths but aren’t completely packed by unit squares seem difficult to prove that they are the optimal s(n). I don’t know much at all about the problem though, just seems like if there’s any space at all you might be able to rotate or whatever to squeeze out some space.

Depends on how they’re being informed I guess. Homogeneously informed can be okay to pretty bad. From mid-century American television and print media all the way down to North Korea and Nazi Germany.

Yeah I checked on DDR4 prices too recently and it made me pretty sad. Glad I upgraded to 64 GB in 2023 though. Another homelab dream deferred

The incentives driving state lotteries are not nearly as strong as those driving private companies like Draft Kings but yeah not great either.

Used to work at 7-Eleven and we would have people come in and out for hours on end pouring money into scratch tickets.

State lotteries are just a regressive tax targeting the poor.
