Yes because they have a different "syscall number".

Doesn't really matter if it has the same name or similar (or identical) function. This website seeks to describe the syscall ABI and that means that each number should get it's own entry.

And there is no identical syscalls in the list, they all have slightly different behavior.

It would be nice to make a banner or warning for deprecated or surpassed syscalls. For example (as mentioned in other comments) you should probably use pipe2 instead of pipe and similar other examples.

  > I can't imagine anyone qualified to run billion dollar projects has much time for any interests other than running billion dollar projects.
Seems to me that understanding their product (core product) and the market is one of the major parts of their job. Even if that means getting informed by your r&d and sales department to steer the development department.

counter example: Concord

We are seeing that there are a lot of players that did stop rewarding the companies as described. The problem is that the signals are not being picked up in these studio's. Partially due to the big divide between critical acclaim vs player reception that we have been seeing in games in the past decade.

There is very few companies where the executives don't engage with their own product. Imaging a film studio where the CEO has never watched a movie, or a publishing house where the CEO doesn't read books. I don't think you need to enjoy the product personally but you do need to engage with the medium at the very least to be able to understand what you are selling and to whom you should listen for feedback.

> Well sure, and I suppose the bosses at McDonald’s never bother to taste all the regional variations of their burgers, right?

This is a funny thing to post after the recently viral video of the McDonalds CEO allegedly not being able to take a bite out of a McDonalds burger without gagging.

Your comparison also doesn't make sense, it's more like the executives of AAA game studio's have never seen or bothered to understand how a game is made. To keep the fastfood analogy perhaps it would be similar to the McDonalds CEO never having cooked or stepped into a kitchen, and would never choose to eat a burger. It's like if the CEO of Warner brothers has never set foot on a set or in Hollywood or even never seen a movie.

I suspect (as the comment from Zeschuk also suggests) most AAA game studio's are run by executives that never played a video game in their lives let alone enjoyed it. And they literately don't know how the sausage is made.

I read manga on my kobo elipsa 2e (10" 227 PPI, 1404 x 1872 resolution) often and find the experience quite good. I specifically got that e-reader since it has a big e-ink screen. Manga is mostly black and white anyway and the color pages get shown in grayscale, that works relatively well. I suppose traditional comics also work well since they have black text on white background the color to grayscale may cover some detail but should definitely be readable. most color comics and manga are printed in 300 PPI.

> You also need to factor in how the police won't actually turn up for most crimes, so there is no point reporting unless you need to do so for insurance policies.

Do you have sources for that?

I see how it could be read as a political coloured article however since you are already "clicking through" you might want to continue clicking to the actual data sources. The takeaway I had from the article is that in any political group people are misjudging the crime rates it is not relevant to the discussion what political ideology is at a higher rate. If you search online there is a wealth of different articles about this topic from multiple political standpoints and different countries where unrest is growing around crime prevention and perception.

Honestly I find the correlations that LFR has worked in other places very weak.

For example the falling of the crime figures could be just because there where more officers around attending the camera's. Or actually that just there being a camera already has a deterring effect, I assume the perpetrators didn't know it was LFR.

I also wonder if the resources spend in a traditional way would have been more effective. I think 3 month trail to make 103 arrests seems a bit low, but I am not familiar with the normal "arrest rate" in that area.

I'm missing some important parts that I would argue any (binary)format needs.

  - a magic header
  - a version number
  - a crc or data corruption check
Additionally I would argue one would be better off writing a custom text parser instead of parsing a binary format in this case, this is similar to the debate about unixlike config vs windows regedit. I would prefer something other then json but sill readable as txt.

Even the json example provided at the bottom can be minified from 418 characters to 166 by replacing the field names with single characters and removing the spaces. Almost all of the savings in this format come from not including the the field names and having a position dependent layout. You can choose to have delimiters or arrange for a byte to indicate the type(+size) for example the following string encodes the example data almost (85bytes vs 80bytes) as efficient but is still readable and supports utf-8 interpretation.

  123456789;LeroyJenkins;60;alliance;p,100,200,300;i,999,1,1;i,45,100,0;a,s,120;a,a,45;
You may optimize it further by allowing recurring entries and allowing assumed values from a defined default and only sending delta's can be dependent on the type of data you are expecting.

  { "itemId": 999, "quantity": 1, "isSoulbound": false }
  i,999,1,0
could become:

  default = { "itemId": 0, "quantity": 1, "isSoulbound": false }
  { "itemId": 999}
  i,999

There is also the Libreboot which may be of your interest. What I see is that there is a lot of development on Coreboot but it is indeed mostly driven by companies working on their latest platforms. There are not many contributors working on older platforms. Though in my experience the response to patches is relatively quick.

The menu part is the task of the payload. If you compile Coreboot with a payload you can get a menu no problem. EDK II, Seabios or grub payloads all support this.

If you want to you may want to point your vibes for vibecoding towards making a libpayload universal menu for Coreboot , that way you at least conform with the architecture.
