This is one of the reasons I don't trust opencode. It looked very nice on paper when it first came out and there were no alternatives. However, today I'd probably stick with simple pi setup (not sure how much better than opencode, but it looks like they don't have all this cloud stuff) or just use one of the big tech agents and call it a day.

I share the sentiment. I've been programming for ~20 years and I've done a fair share of low level development in c and c++. I like the idea of zig and honestly I want to adopt it, but the language syntax feels so counter intuitive. Maybe I'm just less patient the older I get.

Lol, if we're talking about a scenario like this, do you think these billionaires are like Noah with their arc, just collecting people to survive? I cannot see a sane person joining them or not ratting them out if things really go bad.

I don't understand why people have this silly take that billionaires somehow will hide in the bunker and be fine. Do you really think that if we get to that point, they will happily live in a bunker by themselves lol. These people are unable to survive by themselves, let alone in a bunker. Do you think food and shit will get delivered to some random location just like that when shtf.

3d modeling for use in software (games or similar) imo is fine, but I would love to not see this stuff in civil engineering. People without AI are unable to design buildings that don't collapse (e.g. recent NYC apartment highrise), adding AI into the mix will just make things worse.

I used claude and gemini to edit/debug kicad schematics. And it was pretty good. What is the point of this agent?

Ram, hdd, ssd, even blu-ray writers are expensive. I purchased mdisc blu-ray writer for $70 in 2021, I see people are trying to sell the same device for $500+ wtf

It is minimal and somewhat neat. It claims to be P2P, but it still needs to bootstrap the connection via central server. I think that always might be a limitation of P2P.

I had a similar idea but for wireguard only, where you would allow people to join a vpn through a "shared" jumpbox. To get started with wg is very simple, the problem is the same you need public IP address to scaffold everything.

Out of the two options I probably would prefer going wg route, just because it generalizes better. But this is a pretty cool demo of webrtc.

Fixed IP would be a way to go. Some people pick dynamic dns server so they can periodically update if their IP changes. But IMO it's just too complicated. I don't think there's a good way to go around ISP restrictions, especially in USA.

I host my site on my own home server, but I do have a proxy ec2 server to tunnel public traffic via wireguard back to my home server. This keeps things a bit more protected and my router/home network not directly exposed. I'm also not locked into AWS, I just use them for convenience, but could get any other cheap proxy to run wireguard. No dependency on tailscale either, it's just nicer interface to wireguard. Wireguard config is like 5 lines btw.

This will get worse with new generations. They grow up on tables and phones where file system is a completely foreign concept. You need an app for everything.

This is great! Thanks for the detailed write up and suggestions to improve. Like I said, this is my first time doing it and I have no background in EE or PCB design. If I make something else I'll give your suggestions a try.

It's so funny that you had a similar idea. Are you an electrical engineer or swe? What are you building these days?

I was actually very surprised myself. As I mentioned in the post, I don't do that type of work so it's all new to me. This got me also interested in CAD. You can design parts and don't need to own the 3d printer, could just get parts manufactured online.
