An absurd amount, like $300 plus VAT and weeks of wait. Not recommended unless you really love your iPod (I do)

Reading this as I sync music from iTunes/Apple Music to my iPod. Going on 20 years of service life (it's been rebuilt by a pro to have USB-C and Bluetooth, and a new battery) and still my library is intact and syncing works the same. Let's see how long it'll last :)

Hehe, I swear anytime Fennel is mentioned this discussion comes up, no matter what the original statement is. It’s like code golfers discussing Esolang Turing completeness. :)

FWIW I didn’t mean to imply anything here, just draw the parallel between the ergonomics of transpiled Lua. Spiritually I consider Lua to be a Lisp, and Fennel a tool for revealing this quality. I’ve actually recently combined Teal and Fennel to create a statically typed Fennel compiler, which really improves QoL for larger projects. I’m doomed to enjoy lispy or command invocation languages, both of which have fallen out of style.

Lots to learn from each.

This is a transpiler. Luau is a completely different language and runtime.

It’s part of the big three Lua syntax flavours: Teal (Typescript-y), Fennel (Lisp-y), Moonscript (Ruby-ish)

Getting a lot of errors from OpenRouter's endpoint "Failed to get response from the AI model; retried 5 times (total retry wait time: 60.71 seconds) Last error: 429 Provider return error"

It works when it works, but will probably be flaky AF for a few days.

Works well with Copilot:

    COPILOT_PROVIDER_API_KEY=<OR key> \
    COPILOT_PROVIDER_BASE_URL=https://openrouter.ai/api/v1 \
    COPILOT_MODEL=deepseek/deepseek-v4.1-flash-1017 \
    COPILOT_PROVIDER_MAX_PROMPT_TOKENS=1048576 \
    COPILOT_PROVIDER_MAX_OUTPUT_TOKENS=700000 \
    COPILOT_OFFLINE=true \
    copilot

700000 because there's no detail yet on the safe completion limit for most harnesses (OR lists 1M for both which makes no sense). COPILOT_OFFLINE enables all calls except to OR (no GH servers).

Good to know, I had let the team know. It’s handled by the appropriate folks so I won’t see further updates, but this should be in good hands now.

Personal(!) opinion: do get a standard template drafted for these cases by a legal professional. You don’t have to retain anyone or sue anyone, but having a consistent, and compliant filing always expedites decisions - this isn’t GitHub specific. Some platforms like YouTube try to abstract this process and end up with the opposite problem of lots of specious claims. Hence the transparency of publishing all notices we receive. Again no idea whether the filing is the issue in this specific case, nor saying you did anything wrong here, just general advice for fewer headaches.

Is there a ticket code or other contact you've been in touch with?

As for DMCA filings, we publish all of them here: https://github.com/github/dmca

I see two from Photopea, one from 2022 (https://github.com/github/dmca/blob/d97814f268e07e62aabe8b5c...) and one from 2024 (https://github.com/github/dmca/blob/d97814f268e07e62aabe8b5c...) - could you point to the recent filing?

I work at GH, but am not involved in DMCA filings, and can in no way answer or judge this case, but potentially follow up internally.

My comment explicitly did not focus in the use of LLMs and in fact much of the post doesn’t. Leading with the depressing “work alone” slide, it focused on similarity, not AI use. Between students, ruling even “inadvertent” exposure as the same punishable (and literally literally undeniable!) offence. There’s millions of ways to structure a class for learning, this myopic focus is not one of them. Ironically the setup ignores the very basics of human collaboration. AI merely amplifies extremes, it’s a factor but neither the cause nor culprit here.

The title includes “retrospective” but the learning and changes following such a process are absent.

If you remove the mention of AI from this post, the authors process and setup of the notice to students is absolutely mental. The intentions might be good, but damn if this isn’t a comically inept way to set up a kafkaesque nightmare rather than a place for actual learning. The defensive attitude doesn’t help either. Just the sheer energy that went into all the steps mentioned here, not invested in any even superficial attempt to perhaps adapt. That isn’t to “give into AI” or cheating, but if 50% of students break your rules, more rules and litigation about the rules are not the next step to take.

Cynically this is a great way for the unhinged admin to train and harden an AI censorship filter :)

If you’re in need of a writing prompt …

“Opt in by default” would mean that it is not enabled by default. Do you mean opt out?
