same, I'm a paying customer and liked it. I don't have 'production' level demands but was doing lots of prototyping and testing of ideas. Very easy to use and reliable enough to count on.

Stinky.

They're using the words "Monotype Fonts" as a type shop, a brand, a company...I forget which but I set type decades ago and remember the name. They're not referring to 'monotype fonts' as a type of font, like serif or sans serif.

The partners you work with can make or break the best idea; don't let your enthusiasm cloud a colder view of the people you'll be making important commitments with. I've read that it's like a marriage, and I thought that was an exaggeration but it isn't...don't be paranoid, just be careful.

I'm guessing there's a word missing: "What was shocking to me was NOT how brutal but stupid it was."

One thing that's helped me is teaching local "community ed" courses on something I'm confident in. I've taught really basic courses, and not only became more confident over time but also felt great teaching people who are really engaged and grateful.

I think Glen Greenwald was one of the more respected journalists but isn't any longer. I think he either has crossed over or will soon cross over into Seymour Hersh territory (sadly). Mr. Hersh was an amazing investigative journalist that made a huge difference in how we can keep gov't accountable but has ended up (largely) a discredited hack, which is a shame.

I'll have to listen to the podcast, but I think you're way off in thinking this kind of story makes careers. Journalists take their credibility very seriously and this story doesn't have it, at least not yet if it ever will.

Going with a story that hasn't been vetted marks a serious journalist as a dupe for the rest of their lives.

I think the label/type for a company gets figured about by asking: "what do customers come to you for?" There are different ways of asking it, and maybe different words to use, but that's the most direct, simple, and helpful question I've found.

The article makes some great points, but I think the use of software and technology for strategic advantage is different from the fundamental "purpose" of the company.

FWIW, I consider myself deeply introverted and I don't put on a front or think about anything during social situations other than focusing on whatever's going on in front of me...nothing is difficult to navigate, etc. I'm not quick witted or particularly smart and have found that over the years (I'm older) that if I simply pay open and honest attention to my surroundings and don't think about anything it seems to work out for everyone. Of course there are times it doesn't but it's definitely not due to me overthinking (if anything, it's the opposite).

But I've noticed that the typical social situation is overwhelming in a 'sensory' way, that everything is turned up pretty high, but I also know I'm alone in this (at least with my set): the noise, smells, crowding, standing, etc. etc. it's just plain tiring to exhausting. My wife loves it all, needs it regularly. I attribute the "recharge" simply to different wiring not overthinking.

Also: I haven't read the linked article yet, just responding to your comment to round out the conversation.

Ditto. Haven't complained or followed up with anyone yet, but seeing all of this info has me now thinking it's not just me.

Every action is noticeably slower (~1s response for everything) and now, as of last week anyways, need to recharge my phone midday where I've never had to do that.

Agree on this point, but I'd add that you should do it only you're genuinely curious and not just because you have to. I'm finishing the Udacity nanodegree and while I'm not sure I'd recommend that specific program, I've really liked getting exposed to the fundamentals and concepts.

It reminds me of when I first started programming, I started seeing everything a little bit differently...I'm old and this will likely have little to no impact on my career but it's been a lot of fun.
