This makes it better why?

> companies that might have reservations about chinese models having training backdoor are getting tools to train its own

This release is an inference stack, not training.

> the tricks deepseek uses to make building them faster can now be used by more companies, increasing competition even further.

But again, this is just inference, and specific to DeepSeek models. DeepSeek models are already dirt cheap on OpenRouter at pricing / speeds comparable to or better than DeepSeek's first party endpoint which uses this stack.

Yes, this repo will help others optimize inference, but it's nowhere near the hype being proclaimed in this thread.

It's perfectly fine and accurate to say scoping the action here to DeepSeek reflects poor knowledge from DHS and the administration. DHS has broad supply chain authorities granted to it by Congress in 2018, and those authorities are what empowers this decision, but the specifics of the policy are downstream from the administration, not Congress. This administration doesn't care at all about what Congress thinks.

This was an action by DHS, not congress.

Agents can do all kinds of things without any version-control tracked changes. Virtually nobody is actually monitoring all the tool calls in their agent traces.

Seriously. Reading this was like being transported to the 70s. Is this kind of objectification acceptable now??

This is not remotely how the incidents have been happening

I'm also quite surprised to see that LLMs can do this. I guess it is possible that "make an image in MS paint" is a type of RL environment used for image understanding. This is one of those areas where people inside the labs have a very different view into how much models are generalizing.

Add WYSIWYG site builders to the list of businesses on the chopping block.

Sooner or later, agents must be connected to the real world to do economically useful work. The sandbox failures are bad, sure, but the underlying misbehavior is the root problem here.

It's one thing to identify that these influence operations are happening, but another entirely to say they are a significant factor in public opinion.
