Yes, calling a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) a "Nintendo" may have made sense in 1989 or 1990, but not in 2026.

Was skim-reading this thinking all the stories sounded made up then scrolled back up and saw

> This is a work of fiction.

Oh I was looking for something like this and was disappointed it didn't exist.

Thanks for making it!

Yep first thing I thought too

> Coney Island gets its name most likely from the Dutch settlers who called it Conijnen Eylandt or Konijn Eylandt, meaning "Rabbit Island", because the area once had a large population of wild rabbits

Rabbits were a common staple food source in Australia until 1950s when the myxoma virus was released which causes the disease myxomatosis.

The graph in the article is very interesting and worth pondering

Power management (ACPI) in desktop computers also arrived in the late 1990s. Power saving sleep modes have a big impact.

Computer fleets across a country do not upgrade immediately so the lag may contribute.

And ACPI was just one energy saving initiative of that era.

Yep I also share the frustrations with ASUS Merlin dropping support for older devices too quickly. Probably my biggest criticism of the project.

I used to use dd-wrt, but I later settled on ASUS routers, and installing "ASUS Merlin" firmware on them.

I find ASUS hardware high quality in general. And using an open-source project like ASUS Merlin means the pain-points and limitations that I would face with stock firmware have been resolved to (at least to satisfactory extent) when I need reach for the hacker type configurations.

What about looking for insider trading activity?

Similar to transaction on betting markets like Kalshi.

I cancelled my JetBrains subscription a year ago when they announced price increases.

The quality of their software has been falling despite all recurring revenue. I used JetBrains for almost a decade because it just worked. JetBrains Toolbox is some of the worst software I've used, it causes more problems that it solves for me.

Needing to install a different IDE per language is also something I dislike about JetBrains, but not a deal breaker.
