Yep, i can't disclose specific numbers but we went from $X/month/person budgets to $X-100/month recently, and this is a pretty big company with ~5000 people. From what I can tell the pursestrings are only tightening further too, too little actual real-world benefit for the obscene spend

I mean we (huge tech company with ~2000 devs) literally never actually revert anything, in my 2 years here I have quite literally never reverted a commit. We have a staging/release cycle that means nothing ever needs a revert, you just fix issues in followup commits on trunk

This is another one of the infinite meaningless metrics that AI cash burners love to use without context

You mean the S-1 docs where they state they're operating at a GAAP of -4% (even then that's based on their best 28 days multiplied by 13), meaning losing money? You sure showed the plebs with the impressive billions of dollars of loss!

Maybe, but most people aren't paying for their chatbots at all, yet alone the 100$+ plans. Out of the non-technical acquaintances of mine who do use some form of AI (which is a tiny amount of people), they just use the free tiers on claude and ChatGPT, none of them ever have or ever will pay a single cent for any of this. Even the technical folk are barely paying, and they're certainly not wasting 200 bucks on it.

Technically true, but they're still fudging their numbers a bit even in the S-1, such as using "adjusted" operating margins to the tune of 10% when their GAAP (which they truly cannot lie about without ending up in deep shit (in theory anyways, I'm doubtful that they couldn't get away with it if they tried with the current administration)) is actually at negative -4%.

"We're profitable on inference. If we didn't pay for training, we'd be a very profitable company." - https://simonwillison.net/2025/Aug/17/sam-altman/

Where exactly is my strawman? Scam Altman himself has said this, if we ignore the inconvenient parts of the business that loses all that money, they'd be super-duper profitable.

Anthropic said something similar, claiming to their investors they're profitable... If you ignore partner costs and the costs of training.

And mind you this is coming from a proven pathological liar who has a massive vested interest in over exaggerating his business' viability, so doubtless the "Very profitable" part is itself a massive lie.

It's all based on vibes and whatever vague lies the companies put out about their financials. Marvels of corpo-nonsense speak such as "If we ignored every single cost we have, we're quite profitable!" seems to be very popular with the AI crowd

Big gaming companies are the perfect example of corpos treating people as disposable cogs, where they do mass layoffs every time they complete a game regardless of success, and this was the case long before AI too

I work for a large company in NL, and we have offices all over. It's mostly a US thing from what I can tell, every time we have any kind of meeting with US-based people, especially if it's people from the SF office, they are rabid about AI to the point that they all sound genuinely batshit insane. The remainder of the company outside the US (95% of the workforce, with pretty much every single engineer being based in NL) don't give a shit and use AI in a reasonable way to enhance some work without all the insane hype around it.

It makes sense though, US workers have less protections and rights than across the pond so they have to bow in fear to their managers, who themselves have the typical Silicone Valley brainrot, and since we're currently at the cusp of a massive bubble pop they need to try their hardest to justify the infinites amount of money being spent on the scam

Epic can't even bribe users into using their garbage platform. There are people out there who would rather pay Valve (or GOG) for a game, rather than redeeming the free copy on EGS, that's how pathetic their position is. Of course they have to stoop to stupid publicity stunts like this

Except EGS's slop garbage is 400MB on linux
