I personally understand both sides of the argument but I would like to be a devil's advocate this time and provide an opinion similar to the OP:

The analogy of this will be like someone who declares that he is the master of his own fate and has freedom to do whatever he wants. Then he proceeds to slave away in a dead-end job with non-existent autonomy.

I am generally in favor of the idea of cancel culture being that 'cancel culture' is defined as a modern iteration of boycotting which, I believe, is an effective protest tool.

I just hope people executing or practicing 'cancellation' to be more discerning as to who or which really deserves the backlash. A 10-year-old one-off tweet should not be a cause for cancellation.

Is there something like this but for YAML?

Hence Dave Chappelle's 'joke' that African-Americans should start registering for firearm licences en masse.

This feels reminiscent of 'diversity hires' where females and/or members of the LGBT+ community are preferred not because of competency/merit but to improve a company's diversity metrics. Disclaimer: I haven't experienced this myself. I only read/heard of these complaints from other people.

I was thinking of that though I still have to find out which method is accurate. I was hoping someone in HN already did something similar. :-)

I think it's a problem of specificity. Green Day's music do or did sound like punk, but do they (still) live the punk lifestyle/ideology? Did they ever?

I did a quick search and it seems there are multiple branches of punk ideologies. I was never in the punk scene but I had friends who did (some are probably still are). I just remember them mostly focusing on the current and do not care much for posterity.

This is probably similar to that nagging feeling when you forget something but just can't remember which exactly.

I just can't articulate it yet but saving this archive feels anti-punk...

I can only imagine how much disruption this have on whales which rely on "singing" to communicate. Probably similar to living near an airport.
