Perhaps, but I'm curious about what the person meant by "it's always been silly that it prevents derivitive works". AI may have exposed something (although the photocopier could've exposed something similar, so I don't know yet what the problem is) but IP protections are definitely important. As you say, perhaps there will now need to be a way to better protect IP, but that comes with downsides too.

> One is for managing your openai workspace, API, etc

Well, from the page:

> openai images generate --prompt "A tiny orange robot" saves images to ~/Downloads/gpt-images/ and prints their paths, including in pipes.

That doesn't look like "managing the API". It looks like "a consumer product".

I think the real answer is Conway's Law.

> Is 20-30 authors per year making it big really worth the massive suffocation that prevents tens of thousands of authors from writing the stories that are in their hearts?

I'm not sure if this is sarcasm, but just in case it isn't: I don't think anything is preventing people writing the stories in their hearts.

> it's always been silly that it prevents derivitive works.

For example though, if you spend two years writing a novel and I change one word of it and sell it for half what you do, isn't that a problem?

Do you mean you also disagree with the person above saying "Nothing wrong with that"?

> Nothing wrong with that.

There definitely are many things wrong with that, of course. Lighting someone else's money on fire and walking away is highly unethical.

The real question is: what are the motivations for companies to pretend that their AI is world-ending, and what do they want out of the disquiet caused by them saying that?

I wish things like bikes came with mostly-written manuals. Maybe a few diagrams. If anything, things are too pictorial these days.

This is slightly worse than Cloudflare's usual excellent writing.

But that aside - surely this won't help for websites with Google tracking code embedded, which are the sorts of sites that track you anyway?

Has anyone got it running on a Pi?

Totally agree. Would love far fewer computers in schools.

I'm also too young to have ever seen one, but I've always liked the SOP for evading an incoming missile: accelerate.

I agree about the JVM. I think the big difference between C# and Java is just that C# has allowed breaking changes, and so has improved various things at the language level. Java hasn't really.

> Uber back in the 2010s was incredible, you could get damn near anywhere for less than 5 bucks or so

Back then the trips were subsidised by VC money, and also the drivers were contractors, so far lower internal costs for Uber.
