Also they lost the simplicity to their product lineup.

How come they just released a Macbook Pro yesterday with the latest M6 chip, to release the day after another Macbook Pro with a year old chip?

Why is there not one Macbook and one Macbook Pro?

I think a lot of the friction people experience with Rust slowly fades away once you learn the language and get used to the borrow checker. Once you pick it up things start to make sense and you actually feel how it helps you and gives you comfort when deploying because of the compile time checks.

But then again the language its very verbose which some do not like. Other downside is definitely compile times.

The frontier models are exceptionally good at one shoting rust. I find them to be even better at writing rust than python (and the dataset for python must surely be bigger). I think there might be a threshold of enough data for a programming language to make it useful for an agente

100% agree

Interesting article. I understand the fury and disappointment.

But still, let's face reality. Rails with Ruby and Django with python's biggest advantage was readability and accessibility. For many, it is just much nicer reading Ruby code than Rust code. But LLMs have completely changed the equation, and development with a statically typed language plays much better into the agentic feedback loop. Add the memory safety guarantees of the rust compiler and the incredible runtime speed even compared to the Java Stack you will see many benefits.

I am biased since I love Rust, but I think backend technologies are going to move more towards statically typed memory safe languages.

Also if you use an agent to write most of your code, with python it gives me a lot of stomach pain just thinking about error potentials and hallucinations, with Rust, that fades to only security implications

yeah nice try meta, if there is anyone I would not allow access to all my private data, its you!

looks like I am going back to the stone age now and write code by hand. Or maybe I am just going to take a walk

exactly, I think it will be an interesting story in retrospective, what happened here

I see it reported now. Strange this is down and claude at the same time

The topic of rewrites in Rust is a difficult one.

Mostly the reasons are not of technical, but of political nature. I mean no one likes to be told that their language is "not good enough". Or "not safe enough". It is our instinct to defend what we love and have put so much time and effort into. But reality is, that Rust really helps eliminate whole classes of errors, that can happen even to the most experienced C or C++ devs.

Accepting that things will and should be rewritten in Rust - until an even better language comes along - is necessary. That does not mean that Rust needs to replace all code on earth. For sure there are many cases where it should not. But in the times of Fable and GPT 5.6, it becomes even more important to reduce any attack surface as much as possible.

correct, but honestly it's much more interesting to have the new Siri on my phone than my mac, at least in my case. Very disappointing, having bought an Iphone 16 pro mainly for the new AI features which almost 2 years later are still not there to be used.

It is hard to distinguish hype from reality these days especially with Anthrophic's IPO around the corner.

But to their credit, I was very sceptical about the statements that "90% of the code will soon be written by AI" and even though we might not be at that point, I am surprised how far LLMs have gotten and how useful they have become. I can hardly image developing software the "old" way where I actually write my code by hand, like I used back in the day. The frontier models have become so powerful that I find myself in moments of surprise, where the LLM actually thought of edge cases that I would have missed
