Firefox has been far too quiet in promoting its advantages (especially to the dev community), which might have helped in regaining market share. Despite my preference for Firefox, I find myself alone on this island in my workplace.

However, the decline of Firefox likely won't be tied directly to its market share. A bigger looming threat could be the repercussions from the Google antitrust case, given that a large portion of Firefox's operating income comes from Google.

wow, blast from the past. Ben Forta's books taught me ColdFusion WAY back in the late 90's. Very cool to see him still active in this space.

That's different than Goleman's pseudoscience of Emotional Intelligence, but maybe that's what NYTimes meant?

Can emotional intelligence be proven to exist?

I am a long-time user of Netvibes and I'm surprised how little I hear the name as a Google Reader replacement given Netvibes' maturity and features.

iA Writer is great. Syncs from my Mac to my iPad via Dropbox. Very simple and elegant interface. Its "Focus-mode" might be exactly what you're looking for.

Personally, my first step is reflection - am I as smart as I think I am regarding programming/history/science/etc?

Second is to seek out experts. This is much easier now thanks to sites like HN, StackExchange, et al. They can help you gauge your own knowledge level.

Not knowing how to code :)

Seriously - in my experience the biggest problem a programmer can have is having a manager that doesn't programming/programmers. The long-term effect of that alone is crippling.

Microsoft has not announced any Windows features that would be specific to their own hardware. And there are other manufacturers gearing up their own Win8 tablets (Acer comes to mind). As a consumer we'll have a choice as to what we feel is the best Win8 tablet. Microsoft doesn't care as long as we're buying Win8 in some form and ensuring their long-term survival.

Microsoft likely wants to ensure Metro app functionality, inking, etc are all available on great hardware. Microsoft is entering the realm of the iPad, and to quickly gain traction in this space they will need to ensure they have a fantastic hardware experience to go along with (what they believe) will be a fantastic software experience. They could leave that to 3rd party manufacturers - and they are certainly giving those manufacturers a chance - but they must feel it's necessary to create something themselves to help lead the way.

I'm intrigued. Let's hope this works out better for them than the Zune did :)

Maybe they're taking a page from Apple's playbook in realizing that best user experiences come from harmony between hardware and software?

I'd still peg Microsoft as a software company, although now they seem much more willing to praise the hardware side of their business. It's likely the hardware division's primary goal is not profit, rather to maximize potential software sales.

Sublime 2 - lightweight, speedy, nice theme options, plenty of syntax compatibility, and 1000-foot code view.
