Jobs was wrong about a lot of things. Just because he thought an idea was silly, doesn't automatically make so.

That is surprising. I had a $200 sub when K3 came out and at the time there was no 5h limit, making the subscription really good for running 4-5 big tasks each month.

Software is changing. It would be a good time to invest rather than to focus on the bottom line. Their revenue is up.

I’m not surprised.

I think it could be streamed if compression is off.

Just so I understand what you are asking about. You have a ESI chunk which is a cache miss and the backend is fetching it, but you want the delivery of this specific chunked to have a streaming delivery?

Intel has been making pretty good progress on efficiency the last year and efficiency is the name of the game, you basically can't do performance without it.

I think Intel will rise again.

First and foremost, China isn't energy-limited like the US is. A modern grid, lost of cheap power coming online every day. The worlds most advance ultra-high voltage transport links are tying the deserts in the west to the cities in the south.

It probably sucks for you if the proposed powerline goes through your house, but the need of the many come first.

Having cheap and plentiful power is a huge market advantage. It was one of the factors driving Norway out of poverty 100 years ago.

> All media other than paper and stone will become extinct

Somewhat tangential...

I once worked for the national archives. Unlike libraries, the archives typically have the only copy of a specific piece of data. So if the lose the data, it is lost forever. My mission was to figure out how to deal with information storage in a millennial perspective.

There are tons of really interesting ways to store data. I think my favorite was printing QR codes on microfilm and then storing the film in an abandoned coal mine on Svalbard. The first frames on each roll with come with source code and instructions on how to decode the data.

FWIW; my recommendation was 3-way replicated object storage, until more stable form of storage presents itself and becomes reasonable.

We got it.

I can't say it has helped much, though. Fable is still completely useless for securing code. Opus does an OK job, though.

The Chinese lifted themselves put of poverty. The state just stopped keeping them down.

The people deserve the credit. Not the state.

The question wasn't if Zuck has been successful, it was if Meta has succeeded at anything new. When was the last time Meta made something original, brought to market and had success with it?

They can’t follow instructions at all. They are a year behind Claude.

fwiw; I had unexplained anxiety, fatigue, poor sleep and cognitive decline as a post-COVID induced histamine intolerance with a few bonus attributes. High amounts of histamine would accumulate in my mast cells then get released in 3-5am, undermining sleep and also inhibiting serotonin.

It took me about four years to fully understand my condition. Hope you figure out what is bothering you. The body is incredibly complex.

I worked on an OSS project and we had a volunteer working from Tobago. His computer wasn't working properly so we sent him a new one.

It got smashed by customs. Literally.
