I understand why you might feel this way, but I don't think the parent and grandparent comments are necessarily "looking for blood." They bring up valid concerns.

Disclosure: I haven't read the linked article.

The brutality in those videos goes beyond what I thought possible. Driving through crowds, beating little girls, trampling on a protester with your horse... speechless.

I thank the internet for making me aware of this.

Agreed. Most people I know say that you're supposed to job hop frequently.

> still 5 figures a year minimum

Speaking from personal experience, if you did decently well academically in high school, you can get upwards of 16K a year in grants alone (Pell Grant ~6K, State Grant ~5K, University Grant ~5K) if your situation is documented poor based on your parent's and your tax returns.

My state school (UT Austin) charges tuition of about $5.5k/semester if you take >= 12 hours of classes a semester.

Of course, I realize this advice only applies to those who are demonstrably poor and perform decently academically. But college is (better than) free if you fall in this category.

If that were all there were to it, I would certainly prefer docker over nixos

> This has been done in various hard science fiction novels. One series, the name escapes me at the moment, actually has one group of engineered human warriors that are quite different mentally from normal humans but they can survive in vacuum and have some insect-like traits physically. They can just drift through vacuum and quietly attach to the hull of an enemy ship.

Pretty sure this was in some book in the Old Man's War series

Thanks for the tip!

Since I hadn't lived thru anything that threatened my society, I never believed in stocking up on non-perishables.

However, the fact that I'm living thru a potential pandemic convinces me that we as a race aren't nearly as resilient as our modern amenities and high QoL suggest.
