Interesting to think about the implications of this for people with Asperger's- individuals with Asperger's will often avoid eye contact which means that they're missing out on essential cues.

TLDW: Like most things, confidence has multiple exit ramps on the highway of life. Conventional confidence advice often says...

1. "To be confident you need to have competence" (Dan Lok)- but if you're reading Hacker News you're probably already playing in the big leagues. So competence isn't your problem.

2. "The world is filled with idiots so you should just be confident" (Alain de Botton). But I do not work with idiots and alot you don't either.

3. "If you're surrounded by people who take away your confidence find better people" (Mel Robbins). But if you've ever made or coded anything, you know that you need criticism.

4. "Confidence is an inside job, you fear the things that aren't real" (Sadhguru/ Brendon Burchard). The 'all in your head' school of thought is cute if you never leave your corporate job but making your own pay check is definitely real.

the blue zone diets are all really interesting because it really makes the point that, while what you eat is important, there are huge variances. Like that Japanese blue zone that eats spam

I agree with drinking more water. I used to not do this because I thought it was just some urban myth and the science didn't really seem to back the need for 8 glasses.

But man does it help with weight loss and alertness throughout the day.

Agree with everything this person above said.

some very light intermittent fasting (nothing crazy- I'm talking 14 hours off 12 hours on) has helped me. try to eat a little later in the day and stop eating a little sooner.

also if you can get into walking, I've found that to be the easiest way to lose weight, and if you combine it with a friend or an audio book it can be really enjoyable.

calorie tracking has worked well for me too- the first 2 weeks you should just be getting a sense of how much you're consuming though, don't try to cut right away

There's also the worry of having TOO MUCH funding- Chip Wilson (LuLuLemon founder) had this problem with his second company Kit and Ace. They didn't have the same edge that they had when they started LuLu.

The confine of having little to no funding forces you to be agile and creative.

The economist Richard Thaler is quite good at writing papers that don't make you want to off yourself.

Are there any other examples of good academic writing?

I liked rule 6 "treat your phone like a book". One thing I did recently was remove the news stories from my google home page. I'd go to search something and then get caught up in some horrific news story. Any advice for people using dating apps? How do you make sure you're using the dating app and not the other way around?
