Some government call centers got mistakenly labeled ‘Spam Likely’. People were denied food stamps and other benefits for missing phone interviews from these numbers.

Took a long time to clear up in California.

I have a question about the company in the article, HiQ. Their website says they identify flight risks. Does that mean if your company has a contract with them, then they will notify your boss if your LinkedIn looks like you are job hunting? Haters.

How can I return all my Nest products in the United States? Any EU-like laws apply here?

I've gotten beer and wine delivered through Amazon from Whole Foods. They had to check my id at my door.

I think it varies by state law.

> Would those angry Googlers be against surgically killing Osama?

They most likely don't want to work for a company involved in any killing.

If they have a felony, then there is a process already for getting it reduced. http://myprop47.org/change-my-record/

If they were arrested recently though, or less than a felony, then I'm not sure.

I'm an engineer at Code for America - https://www.codeforamerica.org/ - a non-profit that does this kind of work with cities, counties, and states.

Its still pretty early days for civic technology. I think we'll see tech provide all the services you listed, eventually. It'll probably be a mix of outside vendors and local governments running their own engineering teams. There are still some legal barriers in the way, procurement for example.

Its happening, just slowly.

If you are interested in speeding up the progress of your city, I'd recommend checking out if there are any civic tech volunteer groups near you. https://www.codeforamerica.org/brigade/
