How about a giant freaking pandemic.

Possible, yes. Easy, no.

Chinese people don't have the best reputation here, most people think you're very smart, but people will worry about your English level/the readability of your code, culture fit, timezone differences, and of course the possibility of stealing trade secrets/hacking.

Aim for companies where you can be autonomous and which don't affect critical infrastructure(forget about financial services, health, science etc...)

Advice:

Be as fluent as possible in English

Network on linkedin or medium, invite recruiters, CTOs, other developers

Post on linkedin, put yourself out there

We just went through a huge pandemic, a lot of people think we're on the brink of WW3, near a financial crisis, big inflation, huge mental and physical health problems.

Everyone is on edge, not just HN lol.

Having kids is mostly reproductive instincts. Which is different from the instinct to support your "tribe".

Maybe you need find some place to volunteer? help your community? or do any kind of meaningful work?

Have you checked your privacy settings?

They may also automatically shadowblock famous companies logos to prevent phishing/scamming

it depends on your lawyer and on your face/outfit really

Have you tried pentesting/security?

A lot of the time it seems like it's about finding bugs, maybe not directly fixing them, but at least find what needs to be fixed

For anyone reading this and thinking about spending your last 10 bucks on a programming book please use Libgen or a free mooc

I read that more than once before.

And while I agree(even though a lot of the people I've suffered with didn't stay my friends), it seems "slightly" unhealthy to look for a situation where I could suffer just to form a bond through shared trauma with people

I'm not that afraid to go out of my comfort zone

but if I spontaneously talked to random people there is a good chance they'd see me as a dangerous lunatic given how weird I can be lol

(Failed founder here, but still a founder.)

That you can't really help people without making money, having a profitable product/service/model.

Even the most selfless billionaires investor rarely want to burn a billion dollar in a money pit.

You can't work with people, who hate making money, who are so anti-capitalistic that the very thought of turning a profit goes against who they are as a person, no matter how benevolent or competent in other areas they are.

If you want to have any kind of real impact, you need to think like a business, a real business, except you'll just not be the one who benefits from the profits. You need stable revenue, profits, growth, even if it's to reinvest everything, but you can't be like "oh it's not about the money, we don't care about the money", the more of a non-profit you are the more you have to think about the money, unless Bill Gates is your daddy.

Of course you have to set to some limits in advance about the things that you'd never do, but you also have to be able to compromise, to see the bigger picture, if your decisions hurt 1 people to help 10 others maybe it's worth it, do no think in absolute, don't work with dogmatic people.

Also pay your people well, really well, a good salary spent on personal growth is an investment in the future of the project, just because money is not the ultimate goal, doesn't mean your partners/employees should have to deprive themselves. You can't perform if you can't take care of yourself.

Price. I have a dozen ideas that could be done using GPT-3. Most of them aren't financially viable, I'm not burning half my income to build an MVP.
