The hardest problems, but not yet a website that can scroll on an iPhone 17 Pro without stuttering reflow.

I take this story as a clear sign that they are careless & it most likely IS happening at some scale in systems that generate/personalize ad variants, chatbots, suggested interactions, etc. For another example of shipping very inappropriate things:

- https://www.wsj.com/tech/ai/meta-ai-chatbots-sex-a25311bf - https://www.404media.co/instagram-is-blocking-minors-from-ac...

Back to the original inference, anyway… generative ad Personalization instances DO NOT (afaik) appear in the public repository of ads. Researchers can't see it, but do we have to strain our imaginations to think that things like nudify apps aren't taking advantage of tools that do things like drop user avatars into their pitch? e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/Fauxmoi/comments/1uhy9yn/instagram_...

I don't have a specific citation to offer, but tbh I've seen enough.

GOOG-411 was "competing" with a strong company (1-800-FREE411) by serving no ads in a category worth ~$3.5B at the time. It was inexplicable at the time, but they did this to get voice samples, way back when. For reasons like that, I expect that this category of training is baked — but I don't have current domain knowledge fwiw.

So, Quri (2009, now part of Trax), which was the startup copy of Proctor & Gamble's retail intelligence operations. But now like a sponge for any AI budgets not earmarked for hardware.

the shoulder rotation plotted at various frequencies sparked for me: is there an "MP3" of character animation data? The way that we have compression optimized for auditory perception… it feels like we might be missing an open standard for compressing this kind of animation data?

edit: Claude is thinking MP3 could work directly: pack 180Hz animation channels into a higher frequency audio signal with some scheme like Frequency Division / Time Division Multiplexing, or Amplitude Modulation. Boom, high compression with commonplace hardware support.

Has anyone tried to make a Yahoo! Directory vision of YouTube/web video?

This isn’t going to get better on behalf of YT product teams, and Sora et al are going to ratchet up the stakes

Based on the polished rib bone / leatherwork precedent, I am going to presume these were fabric-softening dryer balls.

this site, yikes. In summary, we don’t know what happened yet, but you assume it’s the direct and obvious outcome of <your political issue>? And that <many people are saying>?

In that’s the game, then, I suspect the Spotify team was onsite to record a behind the scenes at Boeing podcast, and in the process replaced the locking nuts with Joe Rogan stickers.

I’m a designer with a couple of decades’ worth of practice across the entire space of creating & nurturing digital products. I like fuzzy problems. Pretty good at naming things.

Remote is viable. For initial teams and cofounder-shaped opportunities, I’d prefer to work in-person in SF.

I get that idealists will be up in arms about user-agent based self-censorship and still feel this way. It’s reversible immediately if it was proven to be harmful.

I think that Apple should insist that webviews used this way identify themselves via JS as monetization containers, with clear definitions for when and why subject to App Store review. Done.
