If you're given $8M, how hard are you really struggling? I think many people here on HN believe they could build a tremendously successful company with $8M.

It's frustrating that I cannot get money for my ideas, which I believe are more impactful.

Can anyone explain the significance of this in a few sentences for the non-expert? I read the article but am struggling to understand.

I have a list of them. I review it every change of seasons (quarterly). I can't afford any of them, and my background is so average I don't think I'll ever get investment. I'm working on simple things (Amazon FBA, etc.) to net a decent profit to get one of them going.

This could calm the inevitable social unrest once the massive wealth inequality in the West (particularly) the US becomes more apparent to people.

>Kudos to her for following through and building something.

That's like patting yourself on the back for going to college if you're in a middle class family. Sure it's work, but it would be weird and lazy if you didn't do it.

She basically tripled her wealth by selling alibaba products.

Impressive is the person who 1000000x their wealth.

I guess trying to look at the positive side of this, it proves that most of "startup hacks" you read about on HN are BS. None of that really matters, or ever has.

She'd be nowhere if she didn't have (1) a platform for the past 10 years (2) abundant financing (3) family (4) appearance.

It's definitely frustrating to see someone so successful as a result of extraordinary circumstance and with a product that's value is derived from it's perception rather than technological innovation.

I know this is a valid business strategy, but I don't think it was consciously developed that way, at least initially, it seems like she just sorta walked into this thing and it took off.

I don't think she struggled a lot to achieve this, I guess that is why it is frustrating. I feel like her main advantage was her platform, which she was really born into rather than anything else.
