> we’re cognitively capable of conceiving of less than 1% of

If you can't conceive it, then you can't take a percentage of "it", since you've not conceived that "it".

You mean something like.. a purge.. of the deep state? I think I heard that idea before

I kept reading and reading for that point to be made in the article, and it was burried right at the end. That's the most important part. It seems all the miracle benefits of GLP-1 so far can be explained by basically going on a diet.

Addiction engineering! One of the most influential developments in tech to emerge out of San Francisco. You're right, there's nothing really new about this.

> outside of a world war.

There you go. After ww2 USA just inflated away its debt. It's actually chartered territory.

Their models are already highly capable. They have enough leverage to act like scumbags, yet unlike Americans, they lack the compulsion for it. That authoritarian regime you fearmonger about has in fact done an excepetional job for its people over the last half century.

> Not likely the case in 2015 Apple nor probably even now

I disagree, I think it's 100% Apple to do that.

There are multiple vendors which ship devices with IME disabled and instructions for flashing coreboot (or they ship with it pre-installed). And Apple is much closer to Windows than it is to a GOS phone and self-hosted infra. The options are there for the people who actually care.

The only new thing (to me) was the observation that some of our societal timeframes (e.g picking a 4yr university degree) hinge on assuming a specific rate of societal change. If the rate of disruption exceedes that assumption, the timeframes become inadequate.

> AI is developing faster than humans can individually and collectively understand it and adapt to it. People trying to plan their futures, e.g. trying to plan for a world several years in the future as they enter university, can no longer do so the way previous generations could.

> I’m also very concerned about other AI-related issues: cognitive surrender, AI-induced psychosis and loneliness, power concentration, economic disruption, cybersecurity, lack of accountability, and so on.

I'm so bothered that we seem to have moved on from the ATTRIBUTION problem with LLMs. It just isn't on people's minds anymore, even tho it STILL is a big deal.

I really don't understand this. That's how you make your security decisions? Based on something you've read about Tim Cook in the news? But no third party audit, no open source code, no decentralization, zero self-hosted infrastructure? You put all your data in a black box that someone else controls fully, but hey, at least they took the FBI to court once? And on top of that considering this is Apple, well known for dazzling people with superficial first-impressions, into making bad long-term choices?

I never heard of that. Is this documented anywhere? Also doesn't Apple Store usually replace the whole device for a repair, rather than individual hardware components?
