In my opinion code works when it works so there is less reason to care about the weeds. When code is a communication of intent between people, or even just between a person and their future self, learning to encode that intent well into the code takes practice. There are entire fields people have developed over this, like domain-driven design or data-oriented programming, ensuring the data shows what it means semantically.

It is impossible to reconstruct the intent/spec from the code. More often than not the intent is not clear in the code, and one has to track down the original author to check their context and decision at the time.

As the saying goes, naming things well is a hard problem. It's kinda mystical in a way, where only by knowing an entity's true name will one understand it.

However if it's communicated between agents one may care even less.

Attention is the limit for consumers, agree. I do wish for more Games that stay their course and don't overstay their welcome with fetch/grind quests, although balancing that pacing within storylines, or maintaining engagement/overwhelm balance is pretty much in the game maker's art form. Also retiring the concept of game hours per dollar spent.

The recently popped up clean room implementations of software, along with the video game decomp/recomps, make me believe this is the case. That would mean only those with significant legal representation/protection are safe (big corporations, institutions, govt and military). Protection comes from applying strong legal force through TOS and a favoring law environment. Also means the big players can strongarm taking ideas from individuals without recourse, which is already happening right now, just going to be even more onwards.

Protection of law in this way, I believe stops at the national borders (e.g the Chinese cleanrooming US software would be safe), so I do expect this clean room trend to be a war of attrition at the nation state levels.

Not even needing the AI to think that, US consumers of the electric grid are already subsidising the unpaid bill of data centers. Just need those who are in charge of infrastructure to prioritize the AI consumption over humans, and shifting the books to make humans pay more for resources.

I had a server-side app made for personal stuff, and pico.css drop-in is a pretty good baseline for an usable UI/page. Also visited some web hosts and their sites look perfectly serviceable with Bootstrap. I think it's a good way to railroad some of the more egregious things LLMs might do with regards to CSS.

Jetbrains Mono seems far from boring in my eyes though. It's for code and it's annoying me quite a bit when I see it in big H1 sizes.

Pretty funny that I came up with the exact same thing for run-on sentences and passive voice, no sentence fragments, no if, no contrast-ives (not X, it's Y). Everyone is fighting the same battle with their LLMs it seems

Side point regarding the hand the author draws on whiteboard: it looks off because the finger joint closer to the fingertip cannot bend as much as the joint closer to the knuckle. Some artist taught me this on a YouTube video. It does make me think about how to teach and explain these intuitions you have to really put to words what is different, what looks off etc. and more importantly how to fix them. Coding might be the same case, I think? Maybe LLMs can help here.

No hope, huh.

The issue that I have with this "skill issue" argument is that it is essentially "screw you, got mine". Whether it is teaching programming or going up to making software, it has always been an intractable problem to bring experience, heuristics and intuition to words, something teachable, transferrable. Ok, senior engineers with 30+ years of experience say they are using it right and I'm using it wrong, what do I do with that information? Back to sink or swim, just at a massively faster pace than before.

For the part, I do believe there is a way to gain the "eyes of experience" without spending the years, just not sure exactly how.

I wish AI could do my chores. Laundry, folding clothes, dishes, cleaning... That would be nice.

Personal two cents, I have friends whose music work posted on YouTube were scraped to be in LAION-DISCO-12M, so yeah not very open.
