There was that 1 person who used to work(paid?/volunteer?) at Reddit that actively tried to cultivate high-quality AMA on Reddit. Ever since they've been gone. It hasn't felt the same.

Some amount of hope and optimism that was around has definitely dried up or at least moved elsewhere into other smaller communities.

Everything is overly centralized around a particular influencer/podcaster/celebrity/product or whatever nowadays, it's harder to find topic based or open community-based places. The other places still exist, but still difficult to find and keep going.

I do hope the pendulum swings back towards hopeful optimistic culturally rich community vibes in many digital spaces.

The 30-50% ish publisher seems odd? If its supposed to be a region only publisher? If it was an everywhere publisher I'd think it less odd. But for region only unless almost all the sales are from that region?

Also including refunds feels off to me? Is it normal practice to take total revenue than subtract returns like that?

The last ms team I was on before I quit changed quite a few over the years as the business and requirements changed. I learned a lot about what I enjoy and where I thrive. Where I had done well for a few years the business had become something that was better suited for others. It was best for me and the team that I left and they find someone better suited for the current and future work.

Even now with agentic work there are areas I am able to do well and some areas im not. It's definitely always changing.

Im currently building a ui framework for unreal. I dont enjoy ui work so I wanted a way to have to write less ui.

For me I dont look too closely at the implementation but I look at the api where if a human was using my framework how is the code they'd have to write and engage look at. Then I also do plenty of performance against a comparable target in my case slate (default unreal) and keep overhead minimal.

So good performance and reasonable public facing api are the 2 main pieces im focused on. Less with the internals.

Care about the seams and interaction and the things you can measure or count.

I could be wrong but i thought the local hardware and open models are getting into a pretty good area. While not as good as the more expensive and resource intensive frontier models.

The past few months have reached a pretty good area for me to be useful if there are minimal improvements from here.

I think thered be an energized effort to reducing the costs? Perhaps a small setback but not like a full abandonment burst since there is actual value to be had here

There are lots of us building free and open source free stuff who just aren't promoting as much. It's out there, but I do agree. We could use more free and open source promotion.

Perhaps a hacker news style thread feed where you can only share free stuff?

I agree with you on many points. But I have asked recent models to try and simplify or if there are design decisions or assumptions that are preventing it from being simplified. It's frequently able to cut down on what its built up and maintain what is needed.

As always design decisions change and what's needed at 1 point isn't needed later. I was thinking of setting up a daily cron job for a agent to review and specifically keep the complexity and bloat down. To challenge assumptions or at least make sure they are stated. So that I can review and agree or cut it.

But a human in the loop to decide what to cut is tricky to replacd for lots of reason.

I am definitely interested in alternatives, but I am not interested in an alternative that isn't supported and maintained. Though I suppose at some point I can ask my own agents to support/maintain it?

Some people enjoy rewatching or rereading books and others dont. Careers change and maybe we need a different type of mathematicians that does enjoy this work more than historical work?

Yeah I regularly have 5+ agents working in 1 repo simultaneously even modifying the same file. Since they were all running on my singular local machine. Builds and tests were interfering at 1 point so 1 automatically proposed writing a single script that basically mutex locked it with appropriate wait and timeouts. It had even added this to my own personal agentic todo backlog. They've proposed new skills for me.

They even have split my decisions to human decisions. Proposed and approved work. They can iterate on approved work without me just fine.

And I only just started with agentic coding in last few weeks before that I was mostly a copy paste chat person.

Ive felt like most of my software career has always been focused around automating my own job away and I've always loved it.

And nothing has changed for me except my standards are higher, I have better and more thorough testing, and I can iterate and do significantly more.

Throughout my career ive actually worked from some assembly work to higher level language. PowerPC-> x86 assembly. From c++ to typescript. And now with agentic work im still having the time of my life. It's actually resolved some of my personal focus and attention problems too.

I still push plenty of code to github and if only agents read it and it goes uncredited thats fine with me. Since its not like any of us ever really got publicly credited working at most corporations beyond an immediate team anyway. There are no credits on the big software I've contributed too.

The tools and scripts I build now have shifted to help human and agents work better together. Let agents do what they do better and help empower humans to do what they are better at still.

For the foreseeable future I am still quite optimistic and energized about continuing to do useful and productive work.

Purely from a vram perspective. A triangle is just 3 vertices and some edges. A few bytes of data.

A similar 2d image of a triangle would likely be thousands of bits of data.

The 2d probably uses a little less per pixel. Whereas the triangle has slightly more expensive compute per pixel cost. But modern gpu have dedicated hardware for that.

3d is probably more expensive compute but cheaper vram usage. At least to a point and a certain set of conditions. Barring things like textures and others.
