I agree with you on many points. But I have asked recent models to try and simplify or if there are design decisions or assumptions that are preventing it from being simplified. It's frequently able to cut down on what its built up and maintain what is needed.
As always design decisions change and what's needed at 1 point isn't needed later.
I was thinking of setting up a daily cron job for a agent to review and specifically keep the complexity and bloat down. To challenge assumptions or at least make sure they are stated. So that I can review and agree or cut it.
But a human in the loop to decide what to cut is tricky to replacd for lots of reason.
