This is a false equivalence, which means equating two things based on surface similarities while ignoring key differences.

The Mafia keeping fentanyl out isn't a public service. It's a cartel protecting its own drug market, which says nothing about whether democratic states ( globally ) are failing their citizens.

Who would want to live in Idaho?

The state has an incredibly strict abortion ban.

Here is the UEFA business model according to their statements.

https://www.uefa.com/running-competitions/financial-distribu...

97% returns to the club and 9.3% is ear marked for football development programs.

Some of the money is utilized as reimbursement to clubs that did not manage to qualify.

PS Treating HN like a search engine is not constructive. No flak tho, I also do this sometimes.

Piggy backing to apply more recommendations too.

An Introduction to Programming in EMacs Lisp is also good for the first few chapters even if you don’t use emacs because you are given fundamental concepts of lisp that can be applied to the understanding of other dialects. It’s also free.

Learn you a Haskell (despite Haskell being not a flavor of list, they share similar DNA ) is great at understanding functional programming with lisp like languages.

Terrible idea. The venues would taking on all the risk and could even cancel a show if there are not enough ticket purchases because its steepest discount is only the day before the show.

A person purchasing a ticket a month or two in advance prior to the show off loads the risk from the venue. They purchase the ticket thinking they can make the show in two months because the event is a long ways away. People know what they are going to do a week advanced most of the time and therefore might just forego purchasing the ticket a that point in time, because there it has instant depreciating value at the point of sale.

While agreeing with the consensus that Thiel is an absolute tool; pieces of wisdom can still be extracted from those that you do not like and a critical reader should be able to evaluate any piece of written text for new understandings.

While I do agree that the 0 -> 1 product is the Apple iPhone, the author of this piece does not acknowledge that the Airpods were the 0 -> 1 product under Tim Cook.

40K - 38K means 2K lines of actual code.

Which could mean that code was refactored and then built on top of. Or it could just mean that Claude had to correct itself multiple times over those 459 commits.

Does correcting your mistakes from yesterday’s ChatGPT binge episode count as progress…maybe?

Your forget to insert the part where the President asks the convicted defendant if they want to finance their pardon with Klarna or Affirm in the Presidential Library's checkout page

Considering how popular the show was at its peak, the fact that there is still more content to come and how IPs are being rehashed all the time, it would a non zero chance that they redo the entire thing someday.

Telegram users spinning up their own honeypots and blindly trusting a client/server message encryption system is never not a great idea for new grass root criminal enterprises.

The engineering requirements to build a branch of a company with the security needs of specialized SOC would be crazy endeavor and to the point that whatever comes of it would probably look as foreign to the main company's function than what currently exists. Having a separate non-profit agency handle these cases would not only allow for the agency's incentives to align, but also the overall security design approach to its facilities and internal networks. It's a win-win for both private and public interest imo.

You can't just lay out a supposed fact that 99% of users don't care about speed without providing some sort of citation...
