At Newsvine, we capitalized on an opportunity when John McCain and his campaign people hijacked some graphics from my MySpace design tutorial without permission. He referenced/hotlinked images hosted on my server on his own MySpace page so one day I "hacked" his site by changing the graphics. The prank got us on TechCrunch immediately (no surprise), the local news in Seattle (kind of a surprise), and then featured on The Daily Show (huge f'ing surprise and still a career highlight!). Here is the coverage:

Sure. Here's a vacuum test study I performed on this very subject. Looks at the relative effects of words in URL, Title, Headings, and Body: http://www.mikeindustries.com/blog/archive/2006/01/the-round...

It's a little TLDR, but the point above is spelled out near the end in the final "conclusion". Cheers.

Definitely not uncached. Fully cached, but unfortunately running on a brand new Dreamhost PS setup that apparently is not as robust as it should be. Either that, or it just needs to be tuned. Anyway, site is back up and looking into what happened.

Thanks...

Amazing that people are still finding this, considering it was written five years, on a couch, in about 20 minutes. And yes, it was the best $369 I've ever spent.

Did you really just call someone you've never met before -- who created a service you seem to enjoy -- a little brat? People who create great products which get acquired do not get "set up" by their acquirer. The cash they earn is often in exchange for giving up full control over the product's destiny. That is what happened here, and you can certainly argue whether or not Delicious is better or worse off for being underneath Yahoo, but it's foolish of you to try and divine how truthful you think Josh is being, merely because you may trade the best thing you've ever created for $15 million.
