I've been building software to solve issues like this[1]. The question is always: why is it so hard to show what you want on the screen?

So I've built the system with a separate control and presentation. It connects to PowerPoint, Google slides, etc so you can present through web and control it anywhere.

I've also recently added tools to annotate slides just like described in TFA. It's still quite basic but if you're finding yourself in situations like OP, give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Where is that stat from?

Shameless plug: I made Theopenpresenter.com that can do this. You can find the app in GoogleTV (not AppleTV due to browser limitation). And you can control it from phone or anywhere else.

I'm working on TheOpenPresenter for this, do give it a try. You can pretty much open the landing page, scan the QR code and you're set. It's also open-source and pretty mature now.

But is it load-bearing if their writing style changes tho?

Working on things like these are what makes me believe that AI can't replace software developers yet.

Not sure if they'll get there, but i don't see it coming anytime soon.

I do agree with that. I wouldn't say I really really know them either. I know enough to sound competent and be relied upon, and then I can google them to remind myself of the details.

I love AI but one thing that is a bummer is: Skills that used to be straightforward but people generally never took the time to learn are now trivial with AI.

Things like regex and CSS are not that hard if you take some time to study them. People don't though. Now I don't have that advantage anymore since AI can do them so well. Or... Maybe that could be an advantage since there will be even less people learning it.

This is exactly it. I'm pretty sure I found Iroh after thinking: can we ship Tailscale with our app?

For environments where you want people to access your local instance, I believe Iroh will be a game changer. For us, it's to allow control over our software through phones and other devices easily.

Previously, you might have to make sure they're in the same LAN network. But with Iroh, anything works.

In this case, I wouldn't mind if they used AI or not. Honestly it'd be quite interesting to find someone who doesn't use it to hear about why. At the end of the day, I'm more concerned about how effective they'd be in their role. And if I have 2 candidate, one with better domain knowledge but no AI, and another with AI but no domain knowledge, I'd most likely pick the one with domain knowledge.

And if they can make an argument about why they're more effective without AI, more power to them. So if I were to ask the question directly as you suggest, it would be: Are you more effective than the other person I'm interviewing? - which i guess is the whole point of the interview.

> Heroin Fair point, but I also don't think that trying AI is anywhere close to the level of trying Heroin

I guess that's the point though? If their opinion only comes from common popular opinions, then that signal is quite useless to me.

In this case though, I'll admit that it would be a negative signal if they never tried it even once and refuse to do so. You can't make a solid opinion on things you never try after all. It would be different if they at least gave it a shot and disliked it.
