I'm still in charge of a production system serving around 2,000 small to medium websites from a 2-machine MongoDB cluster. It's been running on MongoDB since around 2010 and we have NEVER had any issues.

I accept that the unacknowledged writes was a bad decision, but IMHO if you deploy a new database without reading the documentation, you have bigger issues.

The reality is that there are some places where speed of movement is important and referential integrity is just not that big a deal. We're not all building banking systems.

Great read, thanks for posting.

To me, one thing that's not being discussed much is that Europeans only settled in New Zealand around 200 years ago, pretty short in the history of humanity. You could ask the Maori people how they feel about Europeans showing up and taking their land and destroying their culture, yet they are not gunning us down in cold blood.

They've raised $12,650 and think it will take around 18 months.

Correct, I'm living in Thailand currently and the local bananas all look very much like Gros Michels. They taste great to me and are super cheap, very good joules per money.

Can you really spin one of these up on demand? That obviously means that they have machines of that size (or greater) sitting idle, waiting for someone to use them. That's mind-boggling.

There's also Aerial America by the Smithsonian Channel. They're one hour narrated documentaries with exclusively aerial footage. One per state (they combined the Dakotas). I'm not even American and I bought the whole set on bluray.

Why the use of a placebo in a trial involving babies? Surely they would be immune to any placebo effect?

If you are interested in learning /music/ and not just learning the /guitar/, I would strongly encourage you to start on the piano.

I started on the piano and moved to the guitar later, and I've now realised that the piano gives you such a good musical grounding, so much better than the guitar can. There's nothing quite like having it all laid out in front of you. It's the only way that things like sharps and flats make sense, it doesn't make much sense on a guitar and that makes musical theory difficult to learn.

How did they decide what is West Antarctica and what is East Antarctica? Isn't it all North Antarctica?

That's why they didn't say "Iff I don't pay for the product [...]"

The org is called Destiny Rescue -- https://www.destinyrescue.org/

We've rescued just over 2,000 children since we first started in 2011. I've been involved for about a year now. There are all sorts of roles available, have a look at the positions on the site.
