When this rewrite breaks the internet AGI won't be able to take over. It's very forward-thinking.

You could treat them like bearer bonds. Split your holdings over multiple (like tens) of addresses. Sell individual addresses for cash. You'd need to do this via a trusted intermediary who could accept the cash and verify the address before making the exchange.

And yes, this is somewhat absurd. But so are online transactions that can be hacked with no backsies.

You don't have to give worms to everybody. If healthy adults would be better off with worms (and that's a big if) you could infect just adults. And then give them worming pills in late middle age when their immune systems are weakening.

If you're concerned you can literally print your crypto keys onto a piece of paper. Maybe encrypted with a passphrase. It might get stolen or lost but it's not getting hacked.

P.S. If you're really paranoid don't use a network-connected printer.

Firefox has "File | Work Offline" but it would be nice if a site could invoke this after its assets were loaded, with a clear indication in the browser chrome.

It would make it much easier to trust these offline sites.

In the UK at night it's walking pace. Literally. The guard gets out and walks and the train follows. (At least that was the case 25 years ago when I had a very slow train journey.)

Or wait four days, which is the typical network timeout for SMS delivery.

Not that it matters, but the reason MS recommended a 16-bit installer was that non-Intel Windows NT variants could run 16-bit x86 software via emulation. Windows software that ran on multiple architectures (what little there was) typically had a tiny 16-bit x86 setup program that checked the architecture and launched a native 32-bit installer.

Edited to add: x86-only software had a similar tiny 16-bit setup program that launched the 32-bit installer on x86, and displayed a helpful error message on other architectures. This was done because Windows had a piss-poor error message if you ran a 32-bit exe on the wrong architecture.

All Catholics do things they consider to be sinful. That's why confession exists.

That book is so good it inspired a blog post three years before it was published!

> Unfortunately, every few months the display tries to coax them into connecting to WiFi, and it confuses the heck out of them.

I'm assuming, perhaps incorrectly, that if the TV had a crap connection it would stop nagging.
