I'm pretty sure large companies like apple have a good pipeline to put what you returned in the hands of other customers.

meanwhile, my ability to not waste devices is poor. They tend to grow old in a box somewhere in my house until their utility is zilch.

It might be a sense of personal responsibility, or maybe you purchase mindfully without a "let's try this out" feeling.

Also, there is a wide range of attachments to money people have. I have seen lots of poor people give money to homeless people, and well-off people who use coupons/gift cards and return things in ways that would make me uncomfortable.

Although it is interesting how amazon treats returns and I wonder if seeing how the sausage is made might affects how people view returns. Oh, and things like grocery stores - they have to throw out returns.

lol. sarcasm?

Yes, the elephant in the room is the "cutting edge styling".

I drove one as a loaner and I had all kinds of curiosity, but I didn't want anyone seeing me get in and out of it.

I think it was kind of like a pt cruiser, where the designers thought they were recreating the old style trucks, but to the public it was an acquired taste. A very acquired taste.

The bed design is actually kind of interesting. But I thought they demo'd that it could squat down like a loading ramp and I don't think that materialized.

Favorites exist, but lockdown just means you can't add/delete favorites.

To change the list just turn off lockdown, add/remove people, then turn it back on.

I believe folks in the favorites list have privileges to contact you, so this must prevent random people from doing that.

To add to favorites, turn off lockdown mode, favorite someone, then turn it back on.

the periodic terms and conditions updates are hell though.

It works great for me too.

But there are weirdnesses.

For example, you can't add a person to phone favorites.

a lot of this stuff is already broken.

XQuartz is almost unusable now since new windows don't get focus.

There are a lot of bugs in xquartz marked "macos bug"

Another issue I had is that rsync was quietly failing for a lot of stuff I backed up.

I used to rsync -av machine:dir/ dir/ and it stopped syncing stuff.

Turns out they silently replaced rsync with a less capable openrsync.

That thing is called SI now. Maybe AI means Aerospace Internet.

Astronaut Internet?

I lived in an apartment building that required you to sign an agreement with a third party to pick up your packages in the package room.

You had to give them your phone number so they could send you a code to access the package room, then also agree to collection of photographs and videos of you.

I didn't do it.

I think a lot of other people didn't do it. Some would have the packages delivered to their front door. Others got their packages "held hostage".

> but now we also already have a few nice 80%-ready features queued up for PostgreSQL 20 that just need those remaining 80% to get done!

This is quite a nice perspective to end up on, and a little humor too.

Some of the beauty of linux that wouldn't happen in corp.

Did it actually come in the mail?

I've bought some low-priced things on amazon, just to have them cancelled. Spooky since I figure someone got my name, address, phone number from amazon.
