How are games a "solved problem"? If you're talking about games as entertainment then is not a "problem" to solve, they're games. If it's the tech you mean, then that problem is not solved either, if anything it's become even more important to try to squeeze performance out of ever pricer hardware

Can you expand on this? I don't understand what you mean. You're saying they buy people to vote on the letterboxd?

It's really a personal choice. I would definitely choose the city apartment, as long as I can afford to not have a car I'll choose that, at least for now. Can't fathom the idea of having to drive to the office/city centre/shops when I can just walk.

> Europeans don't get that choice, since land is so scarce

don't think that's true, there's plenty of satellite towns and rural areas around every city

I never tried to dispute the fact, I'm disputing the idea that we should be free to opt out of benefits that have been agreed as the minimum requirements to do business in a society. I would actually go further and argue that allowing that freedom would lead to everyone being worse off. Having minimum standards in a society gives a solid foundation on which to build, can't think of any society that doesn't have them.

A way more interesting conversation would be where to regulate, how much, for how long, what impacts would it have in innovation, etc not that I want to be free to get sold broken goods.

> as if anyone would purchase their goods from purveyors known to disregard food safety

How would you know they disregard food safety if there's no regulation on what food safety means?

> But the worst is that I must pay for those benefits whether if I want them or not

that regulation acts as a lower bound on what it takes to do business in the place. You also pay for companies not dumping toxic material on the streets, for appliances not catching fire, for not eating rotten food and million other things. All of those regulations of course "corrupt" the market for the good of a society so it's not just a race to the bottom. The idea of a free for all market is an utopia that doesn't exist ... thankfully.

According to FixIt Fairbuds are the best ones for repairability, not just battery: https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Fairphone_Fairbuds

Do you know how the Sennheiser's compare? I'm looking for some for using at the gym, but wanted something I can easily fix if needed.

The Fairbuds are also quite a bit cheaper

for the end user, potentially niche, yes. I would argue it allows for anyone to hack around with the file which is a positive in my book

for development though, I'd say it's quite useful. I work in a 3D editor and having data in a binary blob is a pain as you need to use your custom serialiser if you want to inspect the data. If a file is corrupted, good luck figuring out what was there, what happened, etc

> About needing SQLite client, it's real but it's roughly the same size as an XML parser.

what I like about it being XML is I can just open it with any text tool and inspect it. It's human readable so I can edit and debug it manually, no need to have a parser or an extra application just to see what's in my file

> Using XML+ZIP in this day and age is also a strange decision

I agree with you that SQlite is overkill but honestly curious to know why you think xml+zip is strange? what would you use instead?

I've read this comment many times and still don't understand your point, there's no experts in kidnapping countermeasures? first hand experience doesn't count? kidnappings are not real? something about refugees for whatever reason?

I think you should sit this one out since you clearly don't know what you're talking about

you can, but you can also just reduce it, you can eat say half the meat/milk. Eat more vegetables and grains. Not only massively reduces the impact but pretty good for your body too
