They were 100% working on the next game with idTech. Now the next release will for sure be delayed by a couple of years.

No, it wouldn't. The goal of reviewing PRs is to mentor and find new maintainers who will eventually replace the current ones.

You just can't expect someone who isn't willing enough to write one good PR to be willing to become a good maintainer.

Linux has WAY more maintainers, and many of them just reviewed other people's commits for years. They had a crazy amount of contributions even before AI.
