Not uncommon - kuro5hin.org also killed by its own community just because they could.

edit - fixed .com to .org

Summarizing this thread with chat.deepseek.com gets:

"Sorry, that's beyond my current scope. Let's talk about something else."

Why Apple? I have nore Apple stuff than I like but I'm not really an Apple fanboy for reasons. But, compared to the handful of streaming devices I've tried, there is just no comparison. The others were all total faeces.

Does this ban eventually extend to the support chat systems that we see everywhere now? And does that mean that soon we will not be able to insult companies for fear of hurting their feelings?

If roles are reversed, and those being watched were responsible for safety and security, little would change. The human race being what it is, the same tools would still be in place and in use in much the same way.

The protest is more about who watches the watchers. And neither will trust the other.

When it works it's amazing. Files are saved as is with date time stamp appended, so all do is to undo that. Great if you trashed something a while back and always quicker than getting it back via github. Haven't found anything using a similar approach - just copy the change to the mirror. if the file is moved, just make a copy of the changed file, if it is deleted, who cares, just ignore from then on. simple. Everyone else is being way too clever, compression and exact deltas history, etc

One recent issue required cloning the user account to get file history working. Just would not work with that account while any new account worked fine.

Current status is broken - the last two security updates report file history as broken. Git hub handles code ok, but for all the other stuff on windows file history was the way to go. Now cumbersome incremental backups.

I can't help wondering if the major labs think that tackling the alignment problem and implementing the 'kill switch' that is currently being proposed is going to be their moat.

Funny. I had a similar thought but instead of bad code, I was thinking of AI slop content.

bog standard firefox. usability is superior to chromium wrt bookmarking and custom signed extensions are easier to share across systems.

That ship has sailed. A far as most are concerned gmail is email. So that is now the reality. Google has successfully, without any resistance, assimilated email and the web.

I run my own mail and I faithfully avoid chrome as much as I can but the ship is long gone over the horizon.

Sad. But so it goes.

The README mentions that C# was used initially so I'd be surprised if that support is not still in there.

Plenty of reasons to continue using WinForms for quick and dirty utils.

WinForms has had a major cleanup over the last few years. Issues with DPI, multiple windows are mostly gone.

You no longer need VS2. vscode on its own is excellent, and you can if you need to, still use VS2 for debugging

(Same applies to AvaloniaUI for cross platform.)

Codex, Claude need guidance if you want something maintainable, otherwise they generate a mess structure wise or reinventing functionality already available in standard controls 'out of the box'.

But people want python ...
