Wow, the 5 seconds one is really fast! My static microblog generator [1] takes 30 seconds to generate 2600+ HTML pages from a single Markdown file (it uses a single Markdown file with additional directives to define seperate posts). Example can be visited at [2]. Tested on a Mac mini Late 2014 (!).
I plan to buy an M4 or M5 Mac mini later this year. Curious how fast it will generate my blog then.

Nice to see another static site generator that uses commonmark. I use it as well in `tumblelog` which is available on [GitHub](https://github.com/john-bokma/tumblelog/). It's less lightweight as it supports tags, an RSS feed, and a JSON feed. Example site: [Plurrrr](https://plurrrr.com/).

It's nice to read someone else's take on writing an SSG. I wrote one [0] specifically to generate a microblog [1] so I use a single markdown file with additional directives to provide meta data like tags and to split the file in blog entries. I am considering writing an SSG that can handle a large blog so I bookmarked your site for inspiration; thanks! I probably am going to use Python for it, though.

I did the same :-) and also in Python (and there is a Perl version, too). The code is available at GitHub as [tumblelog](https://github.com/john-bokma/tumblelog). The site is generate from a single Markdown file with extra directives is called [Plurrrr](https://plurrrr.com/).

The lesser known but inspiration for some well known authors [1]: [Jack Vance](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Vance).
I can highly recommend "The Demon Princes", "The Cadwal Chronicles" and "Tschai".

How well does it handle a large amount of writes to small files (say 1000 files, each about 8KB)?
Edit: the static blog generator I wrote [1] takes 11 seconds inside a Ubuntu virtual machine with the directory shared with MacOS on an Mac mini late 2014. Docker, on the same machine, takes 1m13 seconds using gRPC FUSE for file sharing. 1866 HTML files are being generated.
