Could they not just have fruit picking farms in the south and export it here? I think that will be a win win for everyone. The big losers will be the US farms I guess.

It will be a huge gift to Elon and SPCX.

The laws were written carefully with the full support of industry lobbyists for maximal benefit. These are not accidents.

This recently happened to my elderly relative. He downloaded an app to take a test needed for his profession and the full screen ad selling a PDF reader convinced him that something was missing on his Android phone and he needed to spend hundreds of dollars to install the PDF reader paid edition as the subscription had expired. It fooled me for a few minutes as well. Google’s ad practices are totally disgusting. I wonder if the same app on iPhone is any better or if that suffers the same fate as android as the ad toolkits are maximally scam infused.

The article is basically predicting the opposite. USA will become the sole energy supplier (with Venezuela) of the world. All outstanding debts will get paid off due to huge economic windfall. USA will only sell oil in USD so it really doesn’t matter what other oil producers do.

You are basically any insurance policy to your employer now - they need someone accountable when things break.

Jev is targeted to end users, and the tooling is really great. Unfortunately publishing papers without code or tooling or APIs will not attract the crowd as they want something usable quickly. That said, being second in this space is not the end of the world and the race is still on. If there is API access and proper tooling support like Jev, then it can win the game based on merit and not just marketing.

Turn off all the web search and other domains that the index uses. Apple took a really brain dead decision to include web search in the results, and they are the worst. It is completely useless, and even though the recall has expanded, the precision is abysmal.

I hope they've fixed the keyboard auto misspell and the horrible screen time feautures.

My setup is ghostty with herdr and this is so much better than using tmux or anything else. The one issue I have with herdr is its default key bindings are not familiar with anything I’ve used before. But it is easy to make Claude configure this - I found you can bind cmd-<key> sequences n addition to ctrl and alt modifiers. The only thing I’m missing is viewing rendered markdown and mermaid charts as part of the agent outputs.

The Ukraine war accelerated this as US sanctioned Russian assets. Blowing up this system seems like a deliberate decision in part of US and not some accident. Gold prices have been going up as folks are hedging the dollar risk and it is expected to continue.

> When Google offered me the job of Director of Android Platform Security in 2017, it was impossible to refuse. Yes, Trump was already president—my family and I had qualms—but he seemed contained, even ineffective.

Why make this about trump and politics. It’s just a job.

Zuck has not accountability and total veto powers at the board level. If this was some other CEO making so many mistakes starting with the brain dead Metaverse, they would have been either fired or investigated for fraud. At Meta only the low level engineers are held accountable.

Torque band of most engines is not flat like electric motors. So HP is not the only thing that matters for acceleration.
