You’ve never heard of HyperCard? Decker is essentially its spiritual successor.

So much to dissect in this post. By “N64 level” content I’m assuming that you refer to low poly geometry with low res textures and baked lights, correct? Well, I don’t know which VR games you are playing because even something as basic as Beat Saber would have been impossible to execute in the N64 era. I also find it interesting that you mention Apple being a VR company when they’ve only released one headset a few years ago and have not announced any major updates or successors in the last two WWDC. Meanwhile you ignore VALVe altogether who are about to release their second VR headset (third if you take the OG HTC Vive into account. And who developed and published what is perhaps one of the most immersive experiences on the medium: Half-Life Alyx. There’s nothing N64 about this game as they really pushed the technology as far as you could possibly do with the hardware limits of that time. No, you are not going to get GTA VI running on an untethered headset anytime soon and perhaps for good reason.

USAID was ironically a significant customer for Starlink. People are probably already familiar with the 5,000 Ukraine terminal scandal, but pretty much all their offices (in Colombia at least) had 1 or more terminals. What does USAID have anything to do with this conversation? Well, DOGE was largely responsible for putting the final nail on that coffin. If you think he cares about remote rural schools having connectivity you better think again.

Perhaps for the same reason we got Airbnb of all companies to create Lottie. https://lottie.airbnb.tech/#/

These companies have super talented engineers and can afford to invest in skunkworks projects like these when they can’t find any suitable options in the market.

Colonialism? Take the Falkland Islands as a small example. Ever since the British won the war in 1983 all inhabitants were automatically granted British Citizenship, hence no need for a separate passport.

Point taken! I would only add that Ray-Bans have become somewhat of a timeless fashion icon and this isn't something that you can easily replicate no matter how much R&D money you have at your disposal. (Just look at how goofy Snap's Spectacles are in comparison)

Swift Playgrounds might be the closest thing, but it’s nowhere near as fun or intuitive as HC once was.
