I can't be the only one who has ditched google search because it now returns a half a page of AI summaries (frequently with errors even I can spot) followed a by a second half page of sponsored results....

Like lobbying, but spineless.

I work in tech diligence so I speak to software companies all the time, from startups to $5B transactions. In "normal" companies, remote jobs are still very common. Can't speak to teach giants and their decisions, which rarely have anything to do with actually developing software though

"Software teams are capturing a lot of the speedup in the form of more leisure or quasi-leisure time. (To greatly simplify: software teams are offering 2x speedups to their companies. They're then using tools that allow them to work 10x as efficiently, and taking nice long coffee breaks.)"

This is not what I am hearing from people who work in LLM heavy environments at all. The exact opposite seems to be the case.

Don't suppose you have blogged about this? Or have recos for resources on combining Zotero with emacs? this sounds very intriguing!

Dear OP, allow me to give you some onsolicited feedback!

You have poor grasp of human dynamics, communication, coaching, and probably leadership. You are probaly a hubristic ass who is awful to work for.

You are welcome! What a guy I am, so thoughtful.

My PhD supervisor, George Tzanetakis recently published his tutorials on understanding the Fourier on medium, they are really great. Doing DFTs from scratch in his course on synthesis was a great way to demistify it. Figured this would be of interest to many here

Interesting aside, George was also the first person to successfully use machine learning to determine musical genres back in the early 2000s.

I work both in the creative arts (currently phd candidate in music and CS, run a jazz night, author of open source music hacking tools) and in the bowels of the tech investment world (diligence practitioner for a company that assesses for PE investment).

Two things: Whether the anti AI slant would work is a marketing question. I happen to think it will, but we are all famously terrible at answering marketing questions until it's hindsight. The only way to know is to start small and find out if your slant resonates.

IMHO, this will absolutely, 100%, need to start bootstrapped and have a plan that involves NEVER giving up more >= 50% ownership. Which can definitely be done, and I've even helped PE firms invest (minority) in these companies. I've seen some fantastic ones. Investors expect you to just do whatever seems like the easy money now, and they are all fucking breathless over AI everywhere right now, to sometimes an astonishingly stupid degree.

Especially if you're not a pianist. I play a monophonic instrument, so even though I did plenty of piano, it sure it wasn't up to "casually sightreading examples from the literature" level.

I wouldn't even call this "humans planning poorly", I'd call it "humans pretending to plan poorly for publicity". Weasels gonna weasel.

It has embedded youtube videos of examples. I certainly didn't have that in my 20th century theory text books and it would have been very helpful!

This resource looks excellent
