My wife came across the Jean Pain compost water heater recently, and I've been really intrigued by the idea. I haven't found a great compact design though, and most of the information I see online treats it more like a fun project than something that could be iterated on and refined. Would love to find somewhere to trade ideas on this and potentially replace some or all of gas water heater.
Here's a decent post about the idea: https://waldenlabs.com/compost-water-heaters-from-jean-pain/

I helped build the e-commerce site for Tilmor[0] when they were starting up. They build easily repairable mechanical farming equipment for small to medium sized farms with an emphasis on organic farming. It's a really interesting niche that I think will continue to grow. I'm 6 years out from working for them and still think of their products fondly.

I love this. Great work. Huge fan of digital experimentation. It's an art form I feel isn't as popular these days. I've had an idea on the backburner for a bit now of doing a digital quarterly with contributions like this. Kind of a digital experiment punk zine. Maybe it's too niche, but I feel like it could be a good time.

This is all in a book called The Depression Cure by Stephen S. Ilardi (https://bookshop.org/p/books/the-depression-cure-the-6-step-...)
I read this years ago and it's fascinating. Looks like it's been updated for a second edition last year.

I do sometimes find good stories on The Daily WTF, but their focus is a bit different from 500 Mile Email.

Hey, creator here. I’ll look through these today to see what links are dead and try and grab archived ones. Will work on getting archives of the rest of them as well.

Thanks for sharing this one! I've been trying to collect more video game ones for 500ME because I find them to be highly entertaining.
