You might be right: I am indeed using https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/minecraft-server. I thought IDLE_SERVER was an upstream feature but it seems to part of that package's management script.

Minecraft servers are resource hogs even when idle. Enable the built-in idle server shutdown (IDLE_SERVER=true). It automatically stops the server after a few minutes with no players and starts it again when needed. It's not enabled by default.

I'm not familiar with this -- is it in one of their games in particular?

Somewhat related, the experiment ongoing at https://www.ecdsa.fail/ is fascinating: it's a competitive, leaderboard-style research challenge trying to optimise a quantum circuit for breaking ECDSA (specifically the elliptic-curve point addition in Shor's algorithm). It quickly surpassed a result announced by Google researchers last month. Now it's showing a 40% gain over Google's result.

Same. I also find Niri paired with an ultrawide curved monitor to be particularly good.

We replace push advertising (unsolicited messages) with pull systems (discoverability on demand).

I'm not sure about the metaphors. The "Axe of Satisfaction" suggests that some of the ills of late-stage capitalism can be overcome through individual grit alone. Maybe we need to band together and target the root system rather than hacking down individual trees?

For me, Jellyfin makes my smart TV (running webOS) tolerable. It turns the TV into the appliance it should have been from the start, without ads, AI assistants, or silly apps.

Micro Men (2009) is also a fun movie: it's a dramatised version of the Sinclair vs Acorn story.

"We ask that the use and possession of Proof-Of-Work cryptocurrencies be banned, with a one year max wait period to let the various projects transition to other technologies, like Proof-Of-Stake (so that nobody loses money, and this is already happening in Ethereum)". Ugh, I think that says it all.
