Hi, I'm a geek and an entrepreneur at heart.

French, born in Brazil, currently (2016) living in San Francisco. I've previously lived in Bali, Cape Verde, Saigon, Paris, and Rio de Janeiro.

I love programming, reverse-engineering, tearing things apart to understand how they work, and designing beautiful software.

I was the founder of a failed startup (BetterInbox, an attempt to make email a better place), and I'm an avid reader of "anything that gratifies one's intellectual curiosity."

More recently, I made this: http://flowandwonder.com

I love to get email from people I don't know! Get in touch: [email protected]

And yet somehow nobody hears about North Korean hackers stealing billions from regular banks.

I must have been part of an experiment group because a month or so ago login started becoming required to keep browsing Reddit after something like clicking on the third post. It was a wonderful thing that dramatically cut my reddit usage. Then it went away. Looking forward for them to roll it out again.

Funny, for me it's the opposite: I get extremely irritated when Musk or someone else says the future of humanity is to colonize Mars. If you think you can turn a bare rock into a livable planet, please do something about Earth and global warming first.

Off-topic but I find it amusing that you managed to misspell both movie titles :)

Came here to say the same thing, glad I'm not the only one. Unreadable

It would be interesting to hear Hofstadter's thoughts on the new AI / LLM revolution, actually.

Nitpick: the model is 100m x 100m roughly, so 10,000m^2 which is 0.01km^2

You have the same issue with LEB128 though, right?

I made it back to the surface and started feeling that familiar dizziness / light headed sensation. Not sure how to explain. Similar to when you stand up too quickly sometimes and feel like you're going to pass out.

I started swimming towards shore, pulled myself on the rocks there and rested. It felt weirdly wonderful. Warm rocks heating up my body, and a great sensation of calm. Only after a few minutes did I understand the gravity of what had just happened.

I love freediving. But I almost blacked out and drowned once when I was doing it alone, hours hike away from anyone. Sure enough, I was using hyperventilation, which I didn't know back then was a big mistake.

When I think back about it, it's crazy how close I was to death. Learned my lesson that day. As she says in the article, don't do it alone.

The point is that if you have to say it's made with real cheese, the food is complete junk. Even though the cheese may technically be real.

I suspect it's this part:

"This ticket was priced in GBP, not INR. Because the journey originated in Manchester, the fare is denominated in the currency of the origin country: the United Kingdom."

So: the currency is the one for the country of origin.

I've been reading No Mud, No Lotus recently (https://www.parallax.org/product/no-mud-no-lotus/) by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh and this is very much the same advice.

This book has brought me immense joy, I'd recommend it to anyone.

It's fascinating how much Buddhism has gotten "right".
