To OP robinpie:

I understand that Tesla is treating your NTP server, a volunteer server and part of the greater volunteer pool of NTP servers, as their own infrastructure.

However, I can't tell from the article if the scans originate with:

A.) IT staff at Tesla that are scanning exposed services on what they perceive, or claim wrongly, as their own network for vulnerabilities.

B.) Somehow a rogue operator (read botnet)

C.) A rogue operator who is using the cars themselves to run exploit scans?

C would be the most alarming and concerning.

To OP:

Well written. Certainly bridges the gap between fiction and a plausible and believable first person narrative.

Are you familiar with the US magazine The Sun? https://www.thesunmagazine.org/ I have read several short story submissions at The Sun; typically first person submissions which blur the lines between true first person stories, and fiction.

Try to submit your story to The Sun.

Interesting take. Having said that, did you ever try and use workbench in Amiga?

Yet, I remember being around in the 90s and helping seniors navigate Windows98. While it was Windows 98 offered an easier UI/UX than 3.1, was it really superior over the UI/UX of modern interfaces and application design?

I too dislike Mac interfaces, and think that KDE is likely the best UI ever. While on KDE, lets include the also German, and now discontinued, YaST over Windows98 control panel!

I live for Old UNIX screenshots, you just made my day, my week, my month ... ok my year! Thanks!

I also love to collect old xpm icons from that era, and try and assemble arcane FVWM configs that weave them in.

Oh, NsCDE is a great start if anyone wants to emulate some of the Solaris screenshots in the collection.

http://www.typewritten.org/Media/Images/decwindows-ultrix4.5... <-- XV! I used that back in the day. Does anyone remember gv too? GhostView? Another great Motif application for pdf documents.

Reviewing the screenshots here, I realize profoundly that something about the idealism of the 1990s is baked into them; the 1990s a time before the bad vibes of commercialism mostly destroyed the interwebs.

Strange, I love GNU screen, and find the key combinations very easy and intuitive. However, I could never seem to master GNU's Emacs and what I find are very strange default key commands. I love vim for the reason of, what I personally find, very intuitive key combinations.

I just downloaded VSCode for the first time recently -- which I was delighted to find has a VIM mode. From what I read VSCode's VIM mode does not respect the undo tree of actual VIM.
