Pretty incredible how Postgres has gotten so dominant in eng mindshare over the last 5-8 years. Especially with super popular tools like Supabase now being built just on top of Postgres; feel like every company I see is on it

This is great information! How do you know if a law school is a good one? For MBAs it comes down to brand recognition so it’s pretty easy to tell them apart, I think it’s more hidden for law schools. Also curious what score you need on the LSAT to get into one of those.

I think every engineer needs a basic understanding of data structures and algorithms to be successful in problem solving during their day to day. Algorithms teach out how to think about problems and Data Structures give you the tools to solve them.

Whether or not you use them in your work depends on the industry you work in. I reckon at Databricks or <insert-tech-focused-company> they used plenty of algorithmic knowledge and lots of complex data structures early on. But for <insert-product-focused-company> like you mentioned, I think practical product development skills are way more important -- architecting BE systems and knowing how to organize FE components in a modular and extensible way. Thinking like a user becomes more important than thinking like a scientist.

I feel like I’ve been hearing a lot of folks trying to switch off of firebase and into something more scalable for the long term. Nice to see a write up of one of the processes to do that.

A database migration can take ages to finish and there’s so much room for error that it can debilitate a startups growth permanently. Nice to see a success story here.
