For one, your company ought to publish its Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 carbon emissions for all to see. If you understand how the electricity is produced for the AI data centers your company uses, you’ll see that replacing the humans with natural gas guzzling AI workflows is a dramatic rape on the environment and health of species/ecosystems. But what I say doesn’t matter because all tech is in on AI and it’s a race to the bottom for the almighty dollar.

Try having it explain something in “ISO Plain Language standard”. It made an enormous difference for me yesterday. The language will change from dense large paragraphs to simply-worded 2-3 sentence paragraphs. I was using gpt though.

As Ukrainian civilians are being slaughtered by ballistic missiles and drone attacks, and their water, food, energy, education, and other infrastructure increasingly attacked, Donald Trump continues to not put in force the Graham-Blumenthal sanctions against Russia, or take any meaningful action to protect Ukraine.

For any Trump/GOP voters here, this is what you’re voting for - continued war, suffering, and death in Europe and the middle-east. I hope your financial gains from it all were worth it. You’re closer to your singularity/rapture, but will you be part of the chosen ones?

I am no fan of AI, but am hoping the solar and battery storage manufacturers are using it to assist in developing higher efficiency panels and cheaper energy storage (materials research, faster testing cycles, more experimentation, etc).

Both technologies I believe are the grim reapers of Big Oil. Once Big Oil falls (and petrostates), then we can see environmental recovery begin.

And this administration has been talking about “the enemy within” for so long, when do we see the Executive Order declaring protesters as “treasonous enemy combatants” (or similar nonsense) followed by a beefed up ICE-style militia offshoot making arrests from a Flock list of 100,000+ Americans who were tracked within the vicinity of No Kings protests. If republicans maintain control of congress, I’d give it a greater than 1% chance which is way too high.

I was getting solar quotes recently and came across the CertainTeed brand that makes a “solar shingle”. I have no idea where they are made or how they compare to regular panels.

> Just as I now consider Zelensky allowing the Ukraine-Russia war to drag on for 4+ years now as a foolish endeavour

What is he supposed to do? Give up and let the barbarians rape and plunder his nation? Would you want to live under Russian rule?

Zelenskyy is doing exactly the right things. His short and long range strikes inside Russia are severely damaging the Russian economy and war machine. Russia has lost Ukrainian territory in their offensive this spring/summer, and Russian frontline soldiers are being killed and injured at a far higher rate than Ukrainian soldiers who are leaning on a millions-of-drones shield. If you want your continued freedom in whatever country you live in, you better be praying Ukraine defeats Russia. Your country may be next if not.

Very interesting how your enlightening comments about dirty AI data centers are being downvoted. Pro-Musk, pro-AI bots and shills trying to keep the smoke screen going?

If you want to do some non-eugenics, fascist-free AI coding, try Zed with GitHub Copilot. I’ve been using it this week with better results than I ever had with Cursor. There’s even a low token “MAI-Code-1-Flash” model which has been giving me better results than any Composer model I used to use and the tokens used seem to be way less.

I asked it today to fix a non-simple bug and MAI fixed it in one shot with less than 70k tokens (Cursor would have used probably half a million tokens based on my previous usage). Orgs need to start getting more visibility into why Cursor burns so many tokens.

Protecting the panel from the freak large hail storm from inside the track also seems a lot harder than having it in a field with angle adjusting mounts/software.

Congrats, you have a moral compass and you sound raised by good parents. The other people in these threads bragging about burning tokens, not so much.

I’ve sadly had the same thoughts lately to cash out my 401k and say farewell to software development. I’m hanging in for a little longer, I think the AI/greed fever breaks sometime soon (months not years).

Not sure what “tells” you’re talking about. They have a “Made with Human Intelligence” badge at bottom of the post. Are you calling them liars? If so, what do you have to gain by trying to discredit them? Are you heavily invested in AI, or is there something else motivating you?

The overall message from the post is good, and I find the attacks on it in these comments highly unusual.

Some of the science spending was to help us prevent catastrophe and save our descendants.

The GOP cut a measly $60 million per year for scientific monitoring instruments in the ocean, yet are increasing spending by hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars on things like military spending, White House security, and deporting good people they call “illegals”.

They haven’t cut the national debt because they cut taxes on the rich. Taxing the rich could pay for all the science and gradually pay down the debt. But it’s in the GOP interest to cut science to dumb down the population. Climate change is “fake” they say, meanwhile Fox acquired Roku (100+ million households), Paramount (MAGA) acquiring Warner Brothers, CBS, CNN, etc. Oligarchs taking over TikTok and their disinformation machine strengthens.
